Our Mission is Fishin’
Prayer Cards - Each
morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also
regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed
for this week included Jaden Keller (1st), Spencer Osborn (8th),
and Helena Emenhiser (1st).
School Pictures – Mark
Monday, September 15th, down as the day we will have school pictures
taken. More information will be coming home about Picture Day and the cost of
the different picture packages.
ISTEP Testing – The week
of September 15 will also be the week that we take the Fall ISTEP test for the
last time. If you remember the news from last year, the state of Indiana is
moving from fall testing to spring testing. Because this is the transition year,
we will actually take the ISTEP test in both the fall and the spring.
Chapel Families – We
walked to Christ Lutheran Church for the first time this week. We have divided
all of our students into chapel families for these walks. The families contain
students from different grades. Each family also has a teacher as the leader. It
is good to see our older children looking after the younger students and setting
a Christian example for them as they walk. Next Wednesday will be held at WLS;
Pastor Adams will be leading.
Chapel Speakers
- We had the pleasure of having Dave and Beth Hoeppner lead our chapel service
last Wednesday morning. They will be leaving for India in January to serve as
educational consultants for the Lutheran schools there teaching and doing
mission work with the lowest class of children. They presented a great message
for the students and the parents who came to hear them.
JV Volleyball Home Match
– Come and watch our girls play their first home volleyball match next Monday
after school at 4:15. They will be playing the girls from St. Paul’s.
PTL Fundraiser From The
Kleinhenn Company – This annual PTL fundraising activity will kick off on
Friday, September 12, when a packet of catalogs will be sent home with the
oldest child of PS-8 families. All proceeds go to our teachers to purchase
extra items for their classrooms that are not in our curriculum budget. This is
a voluntary activity, but we hope all families will participate.
Needed – Youth
Basketball League is seeking a new coordinator for the upcoming season. Call
Kelly Moore at 632-5424 for more information or if you are interested.
Early Release – Please
make note we have an early dismissal next Thursday, September 11; school will
dismiss at 12:15. Lunch will be served that day, and we will have bus service.
Acolytes - Sunday,
September 7th, acolyte for Zion Lutheran Church – Nicholas Sharrar.
Sunday School is
starting back up at Christ Lutheran Church this Sunday at 9:15 a.m. Ages 3 up
to high school are welcome to come and bring a friend. Also, parents are
welcome to stay and join the adult Bible Study.
Woodburn Citywide Garage
Sale - Saturday, September 13, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come get your hot,
fresh Lions Club donuts or the Legion’s tasty BBQ chicken.
Jr. High Football -
Good luck to Nick Sharrar, Spencer Osborn, and Sam Hathaway on their first
football game Tuesday, September 9, at Woodlan. Go and support the team!
Box Tops – General Mills
Box Tops for Education are on many products including paper products. Please
check for these, cut them out, and bring them to the school office or put them
in the Campbell’s container at either Christ or Zion. The school receives $.10
per box top along with money for every Tyson label. Many thanks for your help.
WLS Teacher Rededication – There will be a
rededication for our WLS teachers during next Wednesday’s chapel service
September 10th) led by Pastor Adams. The chapel service begins about
8:10 and will be held in the school gym. Everyone is invited to participate in
this and to encourage our teachers for this coming school year.
Scrip News – Summer is
coming to a close and school is in full swing. We are so excited to be back to
school and seeing all those happy faces. We are happy to announce that families
at WLS received a total of $4465.12 towards their cost of tuition this year.
Money that each family received was according to how much scrip they bought
between July 07 and June 08. We would like to thank everyone who supported this
great program last year and thank you for your continuing support. We have
exciting news about Walmart/Sam’s scrip. When you use the scrip card to buy gas
you can save $.07 per gallon at the pump. We have cards for $25 and $100 for
your convenience. We are asking for your patience while we build our inventory
up again. The beginning of each year will take some time to rebuild our account
so we can have more on-hand scrip. If the amount you need is not on hand we
will fill the orders as soon as we get our shipment.
