Walking in the Light
Prayer Cards –The two
students our staff will be praying for next week will be: Rachel Scharr (Kind.)
and Samuel Hathaway (5th).
Thanks for Your Help –
We are now finished with our home volleyball matches. Thanks to all of those who
helped out with the concessions during our short volleyball season. We will let
everyone know what their schedules will be once we start getting ready for the
upcoming basketball season, which will begin in November.
Jared Huth Day – Today
was Jared Huth Day. We wanted to let Jared know that we are all behind him as he
participates in the Junior Diabetes Walk that is coming up. When we get a count
on the amount donated, we’ll be sure to let everyone know. Thank you for your
support.
Indiana Non-Public Education
Conference – The conference next Monday and Tuesday in Indianapolis is a
special happening. Being a bi-annual conference, it only happens every other
year. We are not holding a Lutheran Conference this year, so this is an
opportunity to meet with other Lutheran schools and other non-public schools as
well.
During the conference Mr. Staub
will receive recognition for beginning his 35th year of teaching. We
congratulate him on this achievement.
Basketball Coach Still
Needed – I am still looking for someone to coach the 4th to 6th
grade boys’ basketball team. Some of the boys were very willing to volunteer
their parents, but I would like to hear from someone officially before I just
sign them up. I coached last year and enjoyed it, so if anyone has any
questions, please give me a call. (Mr. Hoyer)

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE
SCOTT’S ABC’S FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM: There is now an expiration date
on each receipt. They are dated monthly and cannot be saved until the end of the
year. Please send your Scott’s ABC receipts in to the school in a timely manner,
so that we can meet each deadline (we have a five-week grace period from the
date on the receipt to turn them in) – for example, receipts dated September 30
MUST be deposited at Scott’s by November 3rd. They also will not
accept expired receipts from last year. Thanks for your help and cooperation!
Grandparent Reading
Helpers are needed for the 2nd Grade Class – Grandparent
Reading will begin on Tuesday, October 17. Grandparents usually arrive
around 9:45 a.m. and meet in the cafeteria for fellowship, cookies, and coffee.
The 2nd grade teacher will then give you instructions about the day’s
activities before the students arrive. Please call the school office at 632-5493
if you can help with this wonderful program. Questions? – Call the school office
or talk to Mrs. Hoffschneider.
WOODBURN LUTHERAN
YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE INFORMATION
Each eligible student received
information and a registration form last week. The league is open to all boys
and girls ages 6, 7, or 8, not just WLS students. Any child who is 6 years old
by October 1 but who does not turn 9 before March 1 is eligible to play. A total
of 10 games will be played on Wednesday nights at WLS – the league begins on
October 25 and runs through November 22 for the first session and then resumes
January 3-31. Each team will spend the first half hour doing drills and
practicing and the second half hour doing a scrimmage with another team.
Coaches are needed. A basic knowledge of basketball and a desire to help kids is
all you need to volunteer to coach. Registration will be held next Wednesday,
October 4, at WLS from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you cannot attend the registration,
please return the registration form and a check made out to “Woodburn Lutheran
School” by October 14. Questions? – Contact Kelly Moore at 632-5424.
2006 Walk to Cure
Diabetes The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will
hold their annual walk on Saturday, October 7, at Franke Park near the Fort
Wayne Children’s Zoo. Check in time for the 2 mile walk is 10:00 a.m. and
the start time is 11:30. Packets for sponsors/walkers are available in the
school office or you can register on line at
www.jdrf.org. For more information or more packets, please call Pam Huth at
632-5029.
Needed: The
Preschool Classes could use some pumpkins and gourds, if you have extra that you
can spare. Bring donations to the school office. Thank you!
PTL News On
Friday, October 13, the WLS PTL is sponsoring “Bring a Buddy to
Breakfast” from 7-8 a.m. An information/registration form was sent home with
each PS-8 student today. Please Note: That day, EACS does NOT have school,
but WLS does, so there will be NO bus transportation. This is a perfect day
to bring your child(ren) to school and stay to eat breakfast with them. Other
family members are welcome also – just fill out the form and let us know how
many will be attending.
Memorials to WLS totaled
$167.00 this month. In Memory of: Herman Knoblauch, from
Denny & Deb Adams, Bob & Barb Bottern, Jim & Karen Chandler, Amos Delegrange,

Something NEW!
Today each student received an envelope with their name and address on it –
inside you will find a card and pictures of your child from “Child Find of
America, Inc.” The card is to be completed if your child is missing and the
photos will help law enforcement officials with their search. We did not know we
were getting these, but they will be a helpful tool in case of an emergency.
As of this morning, we’re
planning to finish and send home today with the oldest child in your family –
the 2006-2007 School Directory & PTL Committees Booklet. If it doesn’t go home
today, you will receive your copy next week.
