Lord Take My Hand

and Lead Me

Fog Day Make Up – We didn’t count on having a whole Fog Day last Friday, but that is what happens here in this part of Indiana. We will follow what we printed out in the school calendar and plan to make that day up on January 21, Martin Luther King Day. If we have additional weather related days off, we will then use February 18th, President’s Day, as our next make up day. After that, we will have to add days to the end of the school year to get our required 180 days in.

Girls’ Volleyball – Our 5th and 6th grade volleyball team continues to do well (Undefeated in league play and only one loss in last weekend’s tournament). Next week they have two home matches one on Monday, October 1st  and one on Thursday, October 4th. Both matches begin at 4:15. Come out and cheer them on if you can. (On September 20, they won their match at home vs. St. John, Fort Wayne, 25-19 and 25-19; on Monday, September 24, they won their matches vs. St. John, Kendallville, 25-20 and 25-20; they placed third in the Tourney on Sunday as they beat Ascension 25-18 and 25-20, but lost to St. Peter-Immanuel, 23-25 and 17-25 and then won against St. John, Napoleon, Ohio, 25-21 and 25-15.)

Mrs. Woebbeking to Retire – I hope many of you had an opportunity to wish Mrs. Woebbeking a happy birthday last week. Her actual birthday was this past Sunday. Mrs. Joan Woebbeking has announced that she plans to retire at the end of July next year after 26 years as the WLS secretary. What a blessing she has been over all of these years. We will plan a party (TBA) for Joan at the end of the school year. Those with stories to share about these past 26 years can come and share them with Mrs. Woebbeking and with each other.

Late Arrival Date Next Thursday, October 4th, is scheduled as a late arrival morning. Buses will be running on a two-hour delay. School will begin at 10:05 instead of 8:05.

CHOIR NEWS – Zion Primary and Junior Choirs will sing this Sunday, September 30 – Please meet in the Fellowship Hall by 8:40 a.m.

Chapel News Next Wednesday’s Chapel Service (October 3) will be held at WLS, 8:10 a.m., with Mr. Staub leading. Our Chapel offerings for August and September were designated for the Woodburn Christian Children’s Home. The total of chapel offerings collected through September 19 is $272.74 – we also have two boxes full of food and other items to give to the WCCH. For October and November, we will be collecting chapel offerings and Christmas gift items for two families through Lutheran Social Services.  Chapel envelopes will be given to K-8 students next Tuesday. Parents, Grandparents, Friends of WLS students – you are all welcome to join us for any or all of our Chapel services. Just read the WLS weekly newsletter and monthly calendars for chapel locations and times.

PR Committee ReportThe WLS Public Relations Committee (PR) will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at WLS, 7:00 p.m. One of the committee’s objectives is to expand participation. As we all know, many hands make the Lord’s work lighter. The committee meets 6-7 times during the year to develop ideas to promote WLS. In order to Provide a Christ Centered Education, we need to reach out and let the community know who we are. Please consider joining the PR Committee. The main item on the agenda on October 9 will be the future direction of the committee. Also, we have to finalize plans for a few upcoming events. Please bring your creative ideas and WLS Spirit as we promote higher learning with a stronger spirit!

The Zion Lutheran Church “Little Blessings” Day Care is open and operating! It is located at 7616 Bull Rapids Road and will take children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. It is open weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For information, call Zion Lutheran at 632-4679, ext. 103, or stop at the school kitchen to talk to Jennifer Osborn or Jennifer Swanson.

E-Mail Messages – If your child has an appointment coming up or will be absent for some reason, you can e-mail the school secretary instead of sending in a note or making a phone call. Send info to Joan Woebbeking – woodburnlutheran@comcast.net – any messages will promptly be given to your child’s teacher. The Secretary will check for e-mail messages 45 minutes before each dismissal time to see if you have sent anything pertaining to afternoon transportation for your child/children.

“One-sided” paper needed!  If  your workplace has some paper they want to get rid of that has print on one side, but is blank on the other, we could use it at WLS. Outdated letterhead and other “one-sided” papers are especially useful for running off tests and worksheets.

SCRIP News!  Jennifer Osborn, Jennifer Swanson, and Heather Pyle will soon be taking over the SCRIP Program from Kris Meyer. (Kris has been wanting to “retire” from this program for some time, so she is very happy that Jen, Jen, and Heather have volunteered!). Watch for info from the “new crew” soon! A new “On-Hand” Scrip form is now available – new Scrip providers are Starbucks and Kentucky Fried Chicken!
