Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Michael Lindberg (4th), Collin Haney (Pre-K), Devin Hoeppner (8th), Brenda Maska (Pre-K).

 

First Quarter Ends – This Friday, October 24th, is the end of the first quarter of the school year. The report cards will be handed out during the Parent/Teacher conferences on November 6th and 7th.

 

The Election – During chapel this Wednesday, Mr. Hoyer encouraged the students to understand that God does know what is best for the United States and the world. The students also reviewed Romans 13: 1- 7 which talks about everyone submitting themselves to governing authorities. We prayed for the election and for whoever will become our next president.

 

No School Monday and Tuesday – Remember there will be no school next Monday and Tuesday, October 27th and 28th. The teachers will be in Indianapolis attending the Indiana Lutheran Teachers Conference. Thank you to all who made donations toward the Cambodian Mission projects. The items taken along to this conference for later delivery to Cambodia.

 

Zion Craft Bazaar and Chicken Lunch – Check out the Zion craft bazaar this Saturday from 9 – 2. Mr. Hoyer is one of the 15 crafters and will have his crosses and other crafts there. There will also be port-a-pit chicken for sale to help the funding of Zion’s Little Blessings Daycare.

 

Fall Festival Activities – Next Friday, October 31st, the students will participate in some Fall Festival activities lead by the teachers. The students will divide up into their chapel family groups and take part in seven different activity stations. These will all take place at the end of the day from about 1:15 – 2:30.

 

PTL Fall Breakfast -  Friday, November 14, EACS does not have school but WLS does (NO bus service), so bring your children to school and stay to eat breakfast with them, from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m.  More information will follow soon.

 

Brownies -  Yesterday was the first Brownie meeting but it’s not too late to sign up.  Any girl from the community who is in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade is invited to come.  The girls meet once a month on Thursdays from after school until 4:00.  They have snacks, craft making, singing songs, earning patches and just having fun.  Field trips will be planned, too.  For more information or questions please call Jennifer Osborn @ 749-7252 or Jennifer Swanson @ 486-7117. 

 

Christ Lutheran Church, Bazaar – Saturday, November 1st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  What a great way to begin Christmas shopping.  We will have homemade canned goods, baked goods, cookies, and a lot of craft items available.  We also will be serving lunch, and carry-out is available.  We look forward to seeing you there.

 

Euchre Tournament -  It’s just around the corner.  Tell your friends to mark their calendars for the Euchre Tournament Saturday, November 8th, 5:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.   Tickets go on sale Sunday. Call one of the committee members to reserve a ticket.  Cathy Keifer, Sherry Schaper, Ruth Woebbeking (Virgil), and Gladys Thiele.  Food, cards, prizes, and lots of fellowship for $12.00. 

 

Trick or Treat -  Stop in at Christ Lutheran Church parking lot for a great Halloween treat from 4-7.  Also, Woodburn’s Community Halloween Party at the Community Center starts at 6 p.m. with Kiddie games until 7 p.m.  Costume party is from 7-8 p.m. with prizes for ages birth all the way up to High School.   Free cider and donuts for everyone.  Have a fun and safe Halloween night. 

 

Ice Skating -  Lessons at Headwaters Park starting in November.  Learn basic skating techniques, increase your ice skating confidence, or bring a friend and just have fun.  Registration forms and more information in the school office.

 

M.A.T.C.H. -  Mothers Actively Teaching Character at Home.  Join fellow mothers one Friday a month at Woodburn Missionary Church to learn and discuss Christian values at home.  For more information call Kiley Smith at 632-5339 or Amy Bertsche at 493-1991.  Registration deadline is October 29th.

 

Little Blessings Is Growing -  Little Blessings Daycare is growing and has a part-time job opportunity available.  Please call 632-4679 ext. 103 for more information.

 

Benefit for Mike Gorrell -  November 7th and 8th , bowling and an auction will be held to celebrate the life of Mike Gorrell.  Bowling will take place at Woodburn Lanes. To sign up contact Angie Logan at 632-5497 or 241-2284.  The action will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 5:00 p.m.  If you would like to make a monetary gift, it can be sent to Fifth Third Bank – c/o The Mike Gorrell Fund -  720 East Dupont Road- Ft Wayne, IN  46825.  Please join the community in helping the Gorrell family.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, October 29st, will be held at WLS at 8:10 a.m. Mr. Staub will lead.  Chapel offering for the months of October and November will be designated to Ablaze in God’s Word – LCMS World Mission Project.

 

Choir -  Christ Primary and Junior choirs sing this Sunday.  Please meet at 10:10 to practice.  Zion Primary and Junior choirs also sing this Sunday.  Pease meet in the choir room at 8:45 to practice

 

Congratulations to Madison Swanson for winning first place in the Scary Story writing contest sponsored by the Woodburn Library.  Madison received a $25 Meijer gift card and will read her story at “Open Mike Night” on October 30, 7:00 p.m. at the library.

 

Stamp Contest -  Mrs. Hoffschneider’s 2nd grade participated in the Stamp Design Contest sponsored by the Anthony Wayne Stamp Society and the U.S. Postal Service3 of Fort Wayne.  Their designs will be on display at Concordia High School during the annual stamp show.  This year’s stamp show will be held on Saturday, October 25, 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, October 26, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
