Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
OCTOBER 16, 2008

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Cylie Pyle (Pre-K), Dalton Moore (4th), Abigail Kammeyer (4th), and Makenzie Kitson (Pre-K).

Cambodian Donations - Donations to help Cambodian Missionaries will continue to be collected on the gym stage until next Friday, September 24th.

WCCH Auction – The Woodburn Christian Children’s Home Auction is this Saturday. Dinner and silent auction starts at 4:30 with the live auction beginning at 6:00. All of the action is taking place right across from the school at the Woodburn Community Center.

First Quarter Ends – Next Friday, October 24, is the end of the first quarter of the school year. Teachers will work on the report cards which will be handed out during the Parent Teacher conferences on November 6th and 7th.

Welcome Committee Volunteers Needed – We are going to start a “Welcome Committee” to help any new families interested in learning more about WLS. I am looking for a few volunteers from each grade or classroom to make a few phone calls when a prospective family calls WLS for more information about the school. You would only need to call that new family and be willing to answer some of their questions about the school in a positive light. Anyone interested in considering this possibility, please contact Mr. Hoyer in the school office in the next few weeks. Once we get enough volunteers, we will have a short meeting of all of the volunteers to go over details of just how this would work.

Presidential Election – The teachers have been talking to the students about the upcoming presidential election. The students will get a chance to do a mock election on November 4th to see just who our students would elect. Encourage your children to learn more about this important event. Help them to also do it in a positive way, asking God to guide the election, our nation, and whoever our new president may be.

Zion Craft Bazaar -  Just a few weeks away October 25th.   We hope you will join us for lunch and a look at some great craft items.  We will have special candles, NFL blankets, special baskets, and of course great food.  We will be serving taco salads, homemade vegetable soup, Port-A-Pit chicken halves.  Carry out will be available.  We hope you will join us for a great day of fun and fellowship.

Christ Lutheran Church, Bazaar – Saturday, November 1st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  What a great way to begin Christmas shopping.  We will have homemade canned goods, baked goods, cookies, and a lot of craft items available.  We also will be serving lunch, and carry-out is available.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Field Trips – Next week is a busy week with field trips.  Monday, grades 3-4 will visit Survive Alive House where the Fort Wayne Fire Department will teach them fire safety and how to exit a burning building safely.  Tuesday, 2 and 4 day Preschool will visit the Pumpkin Farm and Wednesday 3 day will go.  Thursday, grades 1-2 will be visiting Science Central.  We wish them all a fun and safe trip next week.

Football News -  Only one more game left for Jr. High football.  Monday Woodlan plays a home game against Adams Central.  7th grade game starts at 5 with 8th grade following.  Go out and support Nick Sharrar and Spencer Osborn on their last game.

Kleinhenn -  Orders will be in soon and if you forgot to keep the “pink” copy of your order form, another copy will be placed in the box with your orders.   Thank you to all who participated in this fundraiser.

Scrip News - Halloween is fast approaching.  Don't forget to get scrip to buy the candy for your trick or treaters.  We have Scott's/Kroger, Wal-Mart and Woodburn Fresh Foods.  Are you going to a lot of football games?  Don't forget scrip for all your after game dinner celebrations.  Is there a birthday coming up?  Scrip makes a wonderful gift for all ages.  Everyone could use some gas money.  If you buy Wal-Mart scrip to buy gas you can get $.07 off PER GALLON .  We also have all different types of clothing store scrip.  We have something for everyone.  Remember that when you buy scrip you are adding to your tuition account for next year.   You can buy scrip in the kitchen everyday (while school is in session)  from 7:30-9.
