Walking in the Light
Prayer Cards –The four
students our staff will be praying for next week will be: Garrett Houser (1st),
Logan Dietel (Pre-K), Elizabeth Burke (7th), and Isaac Meyer (K)
Pandemic Preparedness –
This past Monday I heard more about the possibility of a Pandemic sometime in
our future. According to what I was told at the presentation it isn’t a matter
of if, but when. The Allen County Flu Task Force has put much of their
information on their web site –
www.fighttheflu.com. You might also try this web site if you would like to
gather more information
www.pandemicflu.gov.
WAL-MART Grant – Thanks
to the efforts on one of our volunteer librarians, Casey Sharrar, WLS has
received a $500 grant from WAL Mart. This grant money will help pay for the new
library computer system we put in over the summer.
Successful DC Trip – I
would like to thank all of our 7th and 8th grade student,
parents who went along on this year’s trip, and especially Mrs. Schlie and Mrs.
Schroeder on having such a successful class trip to Washington, DC. Everyone who
I heard from told me how well our students behaved, which is always something a
principal wants to hear. Going in the fall rather than the spring also proved to
be a benefit in shorter waiting lines and being able to see more sites than
normal during the crowded spring time. Our 5th and 6th
graders can now start planning for their class trip which will happen during the
2008-2009 school year when they are in the 7th and 8th
grades.
Basketball Tournament Help
Needed – We make most of our sports budget each year from running our
pre-season basketball tournament. We rotate between a boys and girls’
tournament. This year it will be the boys turn. We need volunteers to help in
four main areas. Those are concessions, gate receipts, monitoring hallways and
gym, and helping at the scorers table. There will only be 6 games during this
tournament. Parents, grandparents, past graduates, and friends of WLS can sign
up to help for one, two, or more games. Please contact Mr. Hoyer for times and
games you would like to help at. Those signing up for the final game should also
plan on helping to clean up. I would like to try to get enough volunteers to run
everything rather than just assigning everyone a job they will be responsible
for. The teams and the schedule of games is as follows:
Participating Teams: Woodburn Lutheran School - WLS
Bethlehem Lutheran School - BLS
Emmanuel-St. Michael School - ESM
St. Peter Lutheran School, Ft.

Thank You Note
“Our 7th and 8th grade students and many of their parents
journeyed to Washington, D.C. during the first week of October. We were very
proud of the students as they displayed excellent behavior and represented
Woodburn Lutheran School and our Woodburn community in a wonderful way. During
the journey to and from Washington, we were engaged in a Euchre tournament. This
was a double elimination tournament and Tiffany Heckley and her daughter,
Taylor, were our champions!! We had over 28 people participating in that rousing
festival of Euchre prowess. In two and a half days, we visited 16 different
historic sites. That required a pretty diligent pace! God watched over us the
entire time, granting us a safe bus ride and no problems along the way. Mrs.
Schlie and Mrs. Schroeder would like to thank the students and parents for being
so awesome!”
