Walkers
– Now that the weather starts to turn a little cooler and it is darker in the
morning, some of our walkers are back at school in the mornings. If you would
like to join them in the mornings before school begins, Mr. Hoyer opens the
school doors by 7:00 each morning.
Direct TV Offer
– Woodburn Lutheran School will again be participating in the DIRECTV4Schools
program. Our school will again receive $100 for every new customer and $50 for
every existing or returning customer who commits to a year of DIRECTV service
and mentions our WLS code number. WLS is not promoting DIRECTV, however, if you
or anyone else you know is going to be signing up for a year commitment please
mention our school code number and we will receive a benefit from this. Thank
you for your support.
WLS Code Number: Still waiting on new
code number
Complete details about this special program are
available at
www.directv4schools.com. Last year, DIRECTV gave more than $1 million back
to U.S. schools through this program.

Volleyball Team - Our JV volleyball
team did very well this season. It would be great to keep all these girls
together and move back up to a varsity team next year or the year after. Many
thanks to Heather Pyle and Tracy Gustin for coaching.
Pre-Season Boys’
Basketball – WLS will again hold a
pre-season basketball event to kick off the new season. It will be held on
Saturday, November 3rd. This year there will only be three teams competing –
WLS, Emmanuel St. Michael, and St. Peter, Ft. Wayne. Each team will play two
games. Our WLS boys’ team will play at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. There will be a fee
of $2/adult and $1/student to see these games. Come out and help us kick off the
new basketball season. Mr. Hoyer will be asking for some help during this event;
if you would like to help on this day, please let him know.

Chapel News
Next Wednesday’s Chapel Service (October 17)
will be held at WLS, 8:10 a.m., with Pastor Edwards leading. For October and
November, we will be collecting chapel offerings and Christmas gift items for
two families through the Christmas Bureau. (See the note below about this
mission project.) As of October 3, $47.71 was donated for this mission.
Chapel envelopes will be given to K-8 students next Tuesday. Parents,
Grandparents, Friends of WLS students – you are all welcome to join us for any
or all of our Chapel services. Just read the WLS weekly newsletter and monthly
calendars for chapel locations and times.
God’s continued blessings
to the following students and teachers who celebrated their October Baptism
Birthdays in Wednesday’s Chapel service: Samuel Hathaway, Shawn Kitzmiller,
Joshua Gerig, Elizabeth Burke, Jacob Gerbers, Owen Yeadon, Kirk Nahrwold, Mr.
Scott Staub, and Mrs. Bonnie Hoffschneider.
Dear Parents, Christmas in October – can you
see the snow falling? This year, for
our October and November chapel offerings we are adopting two families from the
Allen County Christmas Bureau. We will be working on this project during the
next two months to give each family a nice Christmas. There is so much to do to
put together a Christmas for each family to remember. Please help us make this
project successful.
For each family, we are asked to to provide a
complete Christmas Day meal, staple items for the family’s pantry, one new
outfit of clothing for each family member, and one new toy/gift for each infant,
child, and teenager. We will be sending home information about each family later
in the month regarding sizes and ages, along with specific items they are
requesting for their family.
Please bring in the pantry items first. We will
have boxes out in the hallways for you to drop off items.
Please read the separate letter that is coming
home today with the above information along with the list of items needed.
Picture Re-Take and PS-2 Picture Day has been
scheduled for Thursday, November 1, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
If you want your child’s picture
re-taken, please send the entire package in to the school office.
Picture package forms will be sent home with the
2-day preschool class one week before the Re-Take date.
Many thanks to:
Joanne Bradtmueller,
for the large box of mini pumpkins that she
donated!
