Walking in the Light
Prayer Cards – Each
morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also
regularly pray for our students. The four students we will be praying for next
week will be: Elliot Gunderman (4th), Emily Miller (3rd),
Evan Powell (8th), and Madalyn Wiley (Pre-K).
WLS Basketball Tournament
Results –It was good to get the basketball season underway and give the
teams some early game practice. Our boys’ team won their first two games against
Bethlehem and St. Peter and then lost on Sunday afternoon against Emmanuel-St.
Michael. Thanks to all those who helped with concessions, monitoring, gate
admissions, and clean up. It is always good to see all those who pitch in when a
little help is needed.
Terry Hoeppner Article –
(The following article was written by Dave Ebeling and printed in his district
news and notes. I asked if I could reprint it in our Paw Prints because I knew
everyone would find it interesting.)
This past week I had the opportunity to attend a
luncheon sponsored by a Christian Men's group in Bloomington at which the
featured speaker was "Coach Hep," Terry Hoeppner, football coach at Indiana
University. You may not be aware that Coach Hep was raised in Woodburn, just
east of Fort Wayne, and attended the Lutheran school there as a boy and was
confirmed there. He and his wife Jane are now members of my home congregation
of Faith, Bloomington. Coach Hep stated to the 150 men present that many people
asked him if he was afraid when going into his two brain surgeries in December,
2005, and September, 2006. His answer, "Absolutely NOT!" He explained that as
he was growing up he learned his memory work well and two very specific things
he learned as a child were his comfort and confidence as an adult: [1] Psalm
23, especially the words, "even though I walk through the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil," and [2] the hymn, "What a Friend We have in Jesus." Coach
Hep stated that the brain surgeries have brought him and his wife closer to the
Lord. He is aware that the Lord is giving him a platform as IU's coach,
especially as the team wins a few games, to tell his story of his surgeries, his
faith and the power of prayer. Fellow Lutheran educators, keep teaching the
Word. Help children memorize key Scriptures and hymns. Some child in your
class, sometime, will recall those precious words and may have a stage much
larger than your classroom on which to witness to the love of Christ. And pray
for Coach Hep, that he will use the opportunities before him to further declare
the grace of God as it has been shown in his life.

work.
Prayer Corner –
Pray for these two “homebound” grandmas of WLS students: Gwen Kammeyer,
grandma to Abby Kammeyer, and Linda Yerks, grandma to Emily and Evan
Gustin; Mrs. Kammeyer had foot reconstruction surgery a month ago and still has
6-8 weeks of not putting any weight on her foot; Mrs. Yerks had her second
