Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL PAW PRINTS
  WEEKLY NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 30, 2007

Lord Take My Hand

and Lead Me

Prayer Cards – Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included: Paige Gerig (Pre-K), Maggie Clark (K), Dawson Knapp (1st), and Abigail Kammeyer (3rd). The school families who we lifted up in prayer included: the Tim and Susan Gerig family, the Troy and Jennifer Gerig family, the Doug and Holly Messmann family, and the Roger and Kristina Meyer family.

Mid-Quarter Grades – Grades for the mid-point of the second quarter will be coming out next Monday. Review them with your children. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher. We are especially encouraging our students to keep up with their reading assignments in the AR program. It is far too easy to sit down at night and just watch TV until bedtime. Students should set aside time to read as well.

Thrivent Matching Donations – As the end of 2007 comes up quickly, I would just encourage any Thrivent policy holders to take advantage of the matching fund for any donations to schools. They will match $.50 on the dollar up to $600/policy holder. These donations help both the school and Christ and Zion churches. If you need forms, stop in at the school office.

Basketball Games – We are into the beginning of our boys JV and varsity basketball seasons. Check the weekly calendars and come out for some of the excitement at our home games. The boys are working very hard and improving all the time. Come out and join in the fun.

Caroling – Our students plan to go caroling to local shut-ins on the morning of Friday, December 21. If there are special families that you think would enjoy hearing the student come and carol to them, please let the office know. Currently our school bus in out of commission and we may need to have additional parents drive for this caroling activity. Check your calendars and see if you can join the students as they go around and bring joy to these families.

Woodburn Lutheran Christmas Program – Mark your calendars and invite the relatives – our WLS Christmas Celebration, “Joy For The World!” is scheduled for Thursday, December 20. There will be only ONE SESSION AT 7:00 p.m. which will be held in the school gym.

REMINDER: 2 ½ HOUR EARLY DISMISSAL NEXT THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6 – SCHOOL DISMISSES AT 12:15 P.M. – WE WILL HAVE LUNCH AND THERE IS BUS SERVICE AT 12:15. Varsity Boys – home first & back to the game.

DECEMBER IS HERE!

Time is sure flying. It’s time to start thinking about what to have for Christmas dinner. We have Woodburn Fresh Foods SCRIP, Scott’s/Kroger SCRIP, and our very new SCRIP for Walmart/Sam’s Club On Hand – don’t forget to buy a few extra SCRIPS for those last-minute items.

We have some exciting news! We have now added Walmart/Sam’s Club SCRIP to our ON-HAND ORDERS. We have added so many new SCRIPS to our pre-ordered forms that we just can’t list them all here. Pick up a copy of the new “order” SCRIP form and take a look!

Do you know a person who loves to scrapbook, make crafts, or sew? How about a Creative Memories SCRIP from Heather Pyle, or a Michael’s or a Joann Fabrics SCRIP. Do you know someone who really loves to shop? We have Fashion Bug, Old Navy, and Marshall’s. For the guys in your life, we have SCRIP to dress them up – Casual Male XL or Men’s Wearhouse. For the handy man we have SCRIP for Brueggemann Lumber, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, or Sears. For the outdoors man we have Cabela’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, and MC Sports. Do you know someone who loves to read? How about Barnes and Noble, Borders, or Walden Books. Kids always love to shop at Build a Bear Workshop, Toys-R-US, KB Toys, and Game Stop. Do you or someone you know like to order items on line? We have a whole section on our order form for on-line ordering. Just take a look at our SCRIPS – there is something for everyone – just order early to avoid back orders.

As many of you probably know, Uno’s has closed their doors. We have heard that the owner did it because a business partner decided to get out of the business. But, don’t worry – we also have heard that the closing might be temporary and that they may open again soon. But for those of you who don’t want to wait, we were told that Uno’s is refunding money to those of you with SCRIP Cards. The number to call is 1-866-600-8667.

Remember, the cooks are selling ON-HAND SCRIP at school every day at the kitchen window from 7:30-9:00 a.m. They also will take your “ordered” SCRIP and get those back to you when they come in.

If you have any questions, feel free to call us.

The SCRIP CREW – Jennifer Osborn, Jennifer Swanson, and Heather Pyle
