Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
NOVEMBER 25, 2008

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Tyler Knapp (6th) and Taya Kitzmiller (1st).

Short Week – We are all thankful for this short Thanksgiving week. We pray that everyone will enjoy the break with their family and friends. We will see everyone again next Monday morning, December 1st.  Also, we thank everyone who brought in canned goods for the Woodburn Food Bank this past month. They were delivered after chapel on Wednesday.

WLS Association Meeting – Thank you to everyone who came to our WLS Association meeting this past Sunday. We had a turnout of over 150 voting members. If you haven’t heard the results of the different votes, I’ll review them here.

Our first vote was a very positive vote to keep WLS open and to work on other options to balance the budget.

After a few votes, Option 1 was voted for. This option calls for WLS to combine first and second grades next year and eliminate one full time teacher. We would add back a part time teacher in those grades to help teach the main curriculum areas. In addition to that part of option one, the principal position will become a part time position and there will be a tuition increase of approximately 10%. Extra fund raising efforts will also be needed in this option to bring in additional income to balance next year’s budget.

Again, thanks to all of those who have worked so diligently to prepare for this meeting. Now, continue to keep Woodburn Lutheran School in your prayers as we work to make next year even better for WLS.

Mike McConnell -  Mike went home to be with his Lord this past Sunday, December 22.  We remember Mike as a great supporter of WLS.  Please keep his family, Wendy, Emily, and Allison (Grade 6) in your prayers.  The funeral will be held at Christ Lutheran Church at 10:30 this Friday, November 28th.   A luncheon in our gym will follow, beginning at approximately 1:00.

Basketball Results – Our JV basketball season is off and running. Last week we played very exciting games at Unity and this Monday Bethlehem Lutheran School played games here. Both our girls and boys have records of 0 – 2, but all of our players are having a great time and learning each week. Our next game will be Tuesday, Dec. 2nd at St. John - Emmanuel.

WLS Christmas Program -  Thursday, December 18, starting at 9 am and again at 7 pm the students will perform in a Christmas program.  Mark your calendar and invite the family to our Christmas celebration.

Christmas Family -  On Friday, December 5, the 7th and 8th graders will be selling popcorn for $0.50 a bag.  The first grade class will be selling juice boxes.  Money collected will be used to purchase items for our Christmas Family.  Look for more details next week.

Pie In The Face -  On Friday December 5th, all students K-8 are invited to throw a pie in the face of  Mr. Hoyer, Miss Hockemeyer, Mrs. Staub, Mrs. Schlie, Mrs. Hoeppner, Mrs. Schroeder, and Mrs. Singer.  This event will begin at 2:15 following the popcorn and juice box Christmas Family fund raiser.   Mr. Hoyer $2 each pie, Teachers $1 each pie.  Money collected will also go towards the Christmas Family.

Woodburn Christian Children’s Home -  Everyone is invited to the WCCH Christmas open house, Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, from 2-5.  If you would like to receive information concerning the Children’s Christmas Wish Lists, please call Kathy Grant at the WCCH office,     632-5551.

Santa Claus – Movies – Popcorn -  Santa Claus is coming to Woodburn!  Saturday, December 13 is an open house from 1-4 and everyone in the community is invited.  Have your picture taken with Santa, watch animated Christmas movies while enjoying popcorn.   Sponsored by Christ Lutheran Church.
