    Our Mission is Fishin’

Distinguished Students – The Allen County Non-Public School Association will honor 8th graders Spencer Osborn and Devin Hoeppner next Monday morning at an honors breakfast. This will be the 26th annual honors breakfast. Both boys were chosen by the staff to be the WLS representatives this year. Congratulations!

ISTEP Tests Finish Up – We have now finished the spring ISTEP tests in grades 3 – 8. Now that the state has moved the tests to the spring rather than the fall, our students will only be taking the tests in the spring. I believe they have told us the results will not be ready until later in the summer.

Divisional Track Meets – Our short track season will finish up next week with divisional finals. The girls will compete on Monday and the boys on Thursday. Both meets will take place at the Seminary and will begin at an earlier time of 3:00.

Lawn Mowing – Thanks to those who volunteered to mow the grass here at WLS this year. I am putting together a mowing schedule; if anyone else would like to volunteer for a week or two over the summer and fall, please let me know.

Pre-School Finishes – Our WLS pre-school grades will finish up their year next Friday, May 15th.

Rummage Sale – This is just a reminder that the WLS Rummage Sale will be going on today until 6:00 and tomorrow until 1:00. All profits go toward our Pre-School Scholarship Fund.

Zion Junior and Primary Choirs will be singing this Sunday, May 10th, at 9:00.

Mid Quarter Grades – Mid quarter reports were sent home on Tuesday, April 28th. If you have any concerns about your child’s grades, please contact their teacher to set up a conference.

Scrip News -  Spring is here and the weather is getting better.  Don’t forget to buy scrip for all your home improvements and gardening needs.  We have Lowe’s, Home Depot, Brueggemann Lumber and Mendards scrip.  When your yard work is done and you’re tired from it all….don’t forget to buy scrip so you can go out to eat and relax.  Some sad news…..JCPenny is no longer taking scrip cards to pay for their credit cards.  If you have cards that you were planning to use to pay your bill, please call the store before you go.  Different stores are starting this plan at different times.  Fashion Bug and Kohl’s still will let you pay on your charge bill with scrip.  Scrip is sold in the kitchen 7:45-9:00 am (when school is in session).

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, May 13th, will be held at Christ at 8:15 a.m. Pastor Adams will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of April and May will be designated to Camp Lutherhaven.

Acolytes  -   Sunday, May 10th, acolyte for Zion Lutheran Church  –  Spencer Sharrar.

Attention Zion 8th Graders  -  The next gathering for our youth group will meet again at Eric & Marsha Armbruster’s house on May 17th, from 4-7.  Weather permitting, we plan on having a cook-out.  Plan to attend and bring a friend!  We hope to see you there.

Box Tops -  Thank you to all who saved the Box Tops for Education for WLS this year.  We recently received a check for $737.70.  This is money the school received just with a little help from our loving community and friends.  Keep it up!

Field Day -  This year for Field Day students K-8 are going to Pages Crossing.  They will be leaving around 8:45 and will come back around 1:30.  We will needs parents to drive, so if you are interested please call the school office.

Sidewalk Bricks Order Form -  Attached is the sidewalk brick order form.  These make great permanent “gifts” to commemorate a family or person or an event such as graduation.  These bricks will be added to our brick sidewalk in front of the WLS building.  We will be taking order until May 31st and then placing the order.
