Walking in the Light

Don Wharton – Those of you who have heard Don Wharton from Promise Lutheran church sing before may like to take the opportunity to listen to him this evening. He will be singing at the Higher Grounds Coffeehouse @ Anchor Room Bookstore from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.. A great evening to enjoy a cup of coffee, dessert, and some great music.

Zion Seminar – Zion Lutheran Church will be holding a Sexual Misconduct Seminar on Monday, June 4th beginning at 7:00. This seminar has been recommended for anyone working in daycare situations. Zion’s insurance will also be discounted if enough of their members attend. This is open to everyone and especially those dealing with children.

Extra Yearbooks – The WLS school yearbooks will be handed out next Friday, June 1st. The students will have an opportunity to sign each other’s books during the day sometime. All those families who bought the picture package with this year’s school pictures will be receiving a yearbook. Anyone who didn’t get the package deal and would still like to buy a yearbook may that day. We have an extra 17 yearbooks for sale, at $8.00 each.

Memorial Day Weekend – There is no school scheduled for next Monday, May 28th, Memorial Day. Enjoy the extra day off as we get ready to finish up our school year next week.

Awards Program – All of you are invited to attend our end-of-year awards program. This program is scheduled for Monday morning, June 4th. Because of all of our Snow Days this past year, we needed to add this extra Monday morning. We will begin the morning with our closing chapel service. We will then take a short break and return to the gym for our awards ceremony. Awards being given out will include those for attendance, honor roll, track, AR reading program, Mayor’s essay contest, spelling awards, and a few extras. After this program any of the parents in attendance may take their children home with them.

Graduation Service – Once again, everyone is invited to our 8th grade graduation service. It will be held at Zion Lutheran church this year Friday evening, June 1st beginning at 7:00. Special 8th grade awards will be handed out during a reception after the service in Zion’s fellowship hall.

Golf Sponsorships – We are continuing to look for hole sponsorships for our annual WLS Golf Outing. These sponsorships are $50 each. Even if you can’t participate in the outing yourself, please consider one of these sponsorships. For those interested in golfing, there are plenty of extra forms in the school office. Get a foursome together and sign your team up also! ($75.00 per person - $300 per team).

Continuing Summer Registration – Our registration for next school year will continue all summer long. If you hear of anyone looking to change schools or someone just moving into our area that needs a school for next year, please have them call the school office and someone will get back to them this summer.

WLS Association Meeting – School Board Election Results: From Christ – Mark Gustin was re-elected for another two-year term and Tim Gerig was elected for a two-year term; From Zion – Doug Swanson was elected for a two-year term. Congratulations!! Many thanks to outgoing Board members Roger Meyer and Sandy Kammeyer for their years of service! We really appreciate them and all of their hard work! Returning School Board members are: Bambi Keller, Tyler Schafer, Teresa Warnock, and Kelly Moore. Many thanks to them also for all of their work on the Board!

Thrivent Matching Funds – Many of you already know about the matching funds available to WLS for parent donations. As we approach the summer months when not too much money is coming in and the bills still need to be paid, this becomes a great time to think about making a special donation to WLS and having those donations matched with 50 cents for every dollar you donate through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. If you would like more information about this program, please call the office and talk with Mrs. Woebbeking.

Special Summer Projects – The summer months are the perfect time to make improvements to the school without the students in the rooms. A list of projects was recently printed in a newsletter. Help is needed with these projects! Please contact Mrs. Bambi Keller (School Board Vice Chairperson), the school office, or Mr. Hoyer.
