Lord Take My Hand
and Lead Me
Chapel Offerings – This
is just a reminder that this month’s chapel offerings are going to help build up
the WLS Scholarship Fund. This fund is available for those families who need a
little assistance in paying their tuition. We are happy to be able to assist
families in providing a Christian education to their children, who would
otherwise not be able to attend WLS. Any additional donations to this fund can
be dropped off in the school office at any time.
McDonald’s Night –
Thanks to everyone who came out this past Monday evening to support our
McDonald’s Night. We did make a profit of $423, but I was even happier that so
many people out in the community got to know a little bit about Woodburn
Lutheran School.
Core 40 Testing – Some
of you will hear more about Core 40 testing once your children get into high
school. Three of our 8th grade students who are now taking high
school algebra with Mr. Hoyer will be taking their first Core 40 Test for that
high school subject next week. We wish them well on these tests.
Ann Arbor Trip – Last
fall Pastor Adams and Pastor Edwards had planned to take grades 5 – 8 to Ann
Arbor to visit different areas there. Then our bus broke down. Now that the bus
is repaired (thanks to Doehrman Repair Service) the trip has been rescheduled
for Tuesday, June 3rd. Those students will receive more information
about that trip next week.
Harlan Days Grand Parade
– For the past few years we have been marching in the Harlan Days Grand Parade.
We have signed up to do that again this coming summer. Mark your calendars for
Saturday, August 2nd. The parade will begin at 10:00, but we will
start gathering about 8:00 by the Harlan Elementary School. We had shirts for
everyone last year and I know we have a box of extra shirts still here in the
office. Plan to join us that morning as we hand out candy and balloons along the
parade route.
The Yearbooks are here!
They will be handed out the last week of school. If you did not order
a picture package which included the yearbook, or did not purchase just a
yearbook, we have a few yearbooks available to purchase at $7.00 each.
If you are interested, please see the school secretary. First come, first
served.
NO SCHOOL MONDAY, MAY 26
– MEMORIAL DAY!
Registration – We are
now taking registrations for all grades, pre-school through 8th
grade. If you know of someone looking for a school home next year, please have
them call our school office to set up an appointment with Mr. Hoyer.
Important Papers -
Reminder: We have PSAS (Private School Aid Service) forms available in
the school office for tuition assistance (ask the secretary for one); also in
the office are “Joyful Response” forms for automatic electronic tuition
payments, and SCRIP forms that you can use to receive a percentage off of next
year’s tuition.

6th Annual WLS
Golf Outing Update – The committee is hard at work to make this year’s
outing another success. THANK YOU to those who have already sent in their Hole
Sponsorship forms; we’re very encouraged by the early participation. Remember,
individuals as well as businesses can sponsor holes at the outing and we welcome
and encourage both! Pick up your form – they’re at both churches and at WLS –
and get your team signed up to part of the FUN at the Cedar Creek Golf Club
on Sunday, July 20, at 1:30 p.m. As always, if you have any questions,
comment or suggestions, please call Sandy Kammeyer at 260-657-5021.
SCRIP NEWS – The summer weather is coming
(so I’ve been told). Don’t forget to get Menard’s, Brueggemann Lumber, Lowe’s,
or Home Depot SCRIP for all of your upcoming home repairs and outdoor fix-ups.
We have Menard’s SCRIP on hand. If you are planning a big project like a new
barn, shed or garage, you can use SCRIP to purchase all of your supplies. Are
you planning a big party anytime soon? We have SCRIP for all of your food and
paper supplies,. We have Gordon’s Food Service, Kroger/Scott’s, and Walmart/Sam’s.
If you are planning a catered event, we have Hall’s SCRIP for your yummy Hall’s
favorites. If you would like more information about food choices and prices,
just ask the Kitchen Ladies – we have a price list. We also have Hall’s cards
for FREE. This is a card that you keep with you and when you eat at Hall’s, they
will scan this card and send WLS a check each month for a percentage of our food
purchases. This is great because you don’t have to worry about buying SCRIP
before you go out to eat – just keep the card with you. This card can also be
used at larger catered events. Don’t forget, SCRIP is available in the WLS
kitchen each school day from 7:30-9:00 a.m. (We will have a summer
schedule for SCRIP sales listed in next week’s newsletter). School and
Church SCRIP totals for May 12-18 - $5,495.00 sold, with $212.95 profit.
