    Our Mission is Fishin’

Last Day of School – Our last day of school will be Thursday, June 4th. Everyone is invited to attend our closing chapel service in the gym starting about 8:10. Following a short break at the end of that service, lead by Mr. Hoyer, we will have our annual Awards Ceremony. The Awards Ceremony will consist of both academic and athletic awards that our students have earned this school year. Following that ceremony, which will end about 10:00, any parents in attendance may take their children and begin their summer vacation. Since we will not have bus transportation for this early dismissal, we have set 10:30 as dismissal time for all of the remaining students.

Baccalaureate Service – We will be holding our Graduation/Baccalaureate Service in the WLS gym on Friday evening, June 5th, beginning at 7:00. We will recognize those having completed our 6th, 7th and 8th grades this year, as all of these students will be moving on to new schools next year. Everyone is welcome to attend and wish these students well as they end their time at Woodburn Lutheran School.

Golf Outing -  This year’s Golf Outing Committee is pleased to announce the 7th annual WLS Golf Outing which will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 19th, at Cedar Creek Golf Club.  We hope that you will consider participating as a golfer, a hole sponsor or a worker!  Team Registration and Hole Sponsor forms are now available both at church and at WLS.  We are always looking for new sponsors; if you have any ideas on that, please let me know or better yet, feel free to go ahead and contact them yourself.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please call Sandy Kammeyer at 657-5021.

Paper Grocery Bags -  WLS is in need of paper grocery bags.  If you have any lying around the house, please bring them in to the office.  Thank you

PSAS Forms -  Private School Aid Service forms are available in the school office for tuition assistance.  If you would like to fill one out, stop in the school office.

Cook Needed - The WLS kitchen is in need of a cook for the 2009/2010 school year.  We will only have one lunch a day, so the hours will be from 8-12:30 (could differ slightly).  General knowledge in the kitchen is helpful.  You will be cooking, baking, cleaning and serving.  If you are interested in this position please contact Jennifer Osborn at the school at 632-5493.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, May 20th, will be held at WLS at 8:10 a.m. Pastor Edwards will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of April and May will be designated to Camp Lutherhaven.

Field Day -  This year for Field Day students K-8 are going to Paige’s Crossing. Notes were sent home with each student yesterday regarding the field trip.  We will be leaving around 8:45 and will come back around 1:30.  We will need parents to drive, so if you are interested please call the school office at 632-5493 as soon as possible.

Basketball Camp – Woodlan Girls Basketball Camp is looking for girls who will be entering into 3rd grade through 8th grade.  Camp dates are schedules for June 22nd – 25th, from 12:00-2:30.  Camp sessions will be held at Woodlan High School in the main gym.  Cost is $25, which includes the Basketball Camp T-shirt.  Registration will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis.  If you would like to register, call the WLS office and request a registration form or call Tonya Burns, Camp Director, at446-0290 ext. 7413.

We pray for plenty of upcoming warm, dry, planting weather!  Have you bought your flowers yet?  We at WLS will continue to sell our plant and flower scrips through the month of May in conjunction with The Greenhouse Effect in Antwerp.  These certificates guarantee our customers reduced pricing, high quality plants, and their choice from a huge variety of hanging baskets/bags, annual plants, rose bushes, and bedding flats of vegetables and flowers.  Once again their flowers are beautiful and selections bountiful, and it’s just a short 10 minute drive.    Please note that the hours of operation listed on the order forms and scrips are incorrect – The Greenhouse Effect is open Monday – Saturday 9-5 and on Sundays 1-5.    Thank You for your support of our fundraiser!  Any questions, contact Susan Gerig or Deb Lindberg.

Thank you to Riley & Peg Calvin’s family for donating the beautiful Jesus picture painted by Peg.  Everyone is invited to stop in the office to see it.
