Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
MAY 15, 2009

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Rummage Sale – Thanks to all of those who contributed to the rummage sale and also to those who came and bought from the sale itself. We made $1047 for the Kaitlin Pyle Scholarship fund.  In addition the Bake Sale made $200 to help with supplies in the Preschool room.

Exemplary School – The Journal Gazette published the list of school performance levels last week. If you didn’t see it when it was printed, Woodburn Lutheran School was listed as an exemplary school for 2008. It is great to make the list again this year, but we already knew that we have a great school.

Preschool Ends – The WLS pre-school finished up the school year this Friday. We also wish Miss Hockemeyer the best as she changes her name this weekend. She and Christopher Isenbarger will be married tomorrow at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gar Creek. Congratulations and we’ll get you a new name plate for your classroom door for next year.

6th Grade Trip to Chicago – The 6th grade class will take an extra two-day trip to Chicago next week. Since the 6th graders will not be returning next year, we wanted to give them a short trip for the two years of recycling they have already put in. This should be an exciting and educational trip for the class and the parents joining us.

Thank you PTA and Teacher Appreciation Committee for the goodies and gift cards last week.  It was very thoughtful.

PSAS Forms -  Private School Aid Service forms are available in the school office for tuition assistance.  If you would like to fill one out, stop in the school office.

Cook Needed - The WLS kitchen is in need of a cook for the 2009/2010 school year.  We will only have one lunch a day so the hours will be from 8-12:30 (could differ slightly).  General knowledge in the kitchen is helpful.  You will be cooking, baking, cleaning and serving.  If you are interested in this position please contact Jennifer Osborn at the school at 632-5493.

Book Fair -  Stop by the WLS library on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday next week for our BOGO Book Fair.  Purchase one item at regular price and get the second item of equal value free!  Stock up on summer reading material.  If you are available to help during school hours, please call the office.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, May 20th, will be held at WLS at 8:10 a.m. Pastor Edwards will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of April and May will be designated to Camp Lutherhaven.

Attention Zion 8th Graders  -  The next gathering for our youth group will meet again at Eric & Marsha Armbruster’s house this Sunday,  May 17th, from 4-7.  Weather permitting, we plan on having a cook-out.  Plan to attend and bring a friend!  We hope to see you there.

Field Day -  This year for Field Day students K-8 are going to Paige’s Crossing.  They will be leaving around 8:45 and will come back around 1:30.  We will need parents to drive, so if you are interested please call the school office.

Basketball Camp - Concordia Lutheran High School would like to invite boys going into grades 4-9  for a two week basketball camp, June 15-26 from 8:30-11:30, Monday thru Friday.  If anyone is interested please call Josh Eggold at 580-2528. The cost is $110 per camper for the two week program.

Recycling -  Saturday, May 16th, is the monthly recycling from 9-12.  Scheduled workers are:   Jason Lindberg, Brice Rekeweg, Lucas Scharr, Dylan Gerig, Elliott Gunderman, Shawn Kitzmiller, Tyler Knapp, Madison Swanson, Billy Wilkes, Morgan Gerig, Sam Hathaway, Kendra Sinclair, Spencer Osborn, and the following plus a parent; Emily Miller, Buddy Douglas, Allison Messmann.

Acolytes  -   Sunday, May 17th, acolyte for Zion Lutheran Church  –  Billy Wilkes.

We pray for plenty of upcoming warm, dry, planting weather!  Have you bought your flowers yet?  We at WLS will continue to sell our plant and flower scrips through the month of May in conjunction with The Greenhouse Effect in Antwerp.  These certificates guarantee our customers reduced pricing, high quality plants, and their choice from a huge variety of hanging baskets/bags, annual plants, rose bushes, and bedding flats of vegetables and flowers.  Once again their flowers are beautiful and selections bountiful, and it’s just a short 10 minute drive.    Please note that the hours of operation listed on the order forms and scrips are incorrect – The Greenhouse Effect is open Monday – Saturday 9-5 and on Sundays 1-5.    Thank You for your support of our fundraiser!  Any questions, contact Susan Gerig or Deb Lindberg.

Congratulations -  Coach Jake and his wife Jamie are proud parents of a baby girl.  Wednesday afternoon they welcomed Madalyn Elyse Gentz into the family.  She weighed 8 lbs 6 oz and is doing great!  Congratulations also to Jacob grade 2 and Abigail in Kindergarten to the new addition.
