Our Mission is Fishin’ 

Summer Break – We pray that everyone will have a safe and relaxing summer break. For those going on to new schools, we wish all of those students and families well. Remember our theme this year of “Our Mission is Fishin’”. As you have opportunity, share the message that Christ is our Lord and Savior.

Summer Changes – The WLS Board of Education is continuing to make a few changes to summer plans and next year’s plans. Those who are member of Christ or Zion keep checking your church bulletins for news of an additional WLS Association meeting to vote on an amended budget. As we finalize plans for next year, we will do our best to keep everyone informed. A summer letter will go out to all families somewhere in July.

Thank You from Mr. Hoyer – I want to take one more opportunity to thank all of our teachers for their dedicated service this school year. Thank you also to all of the many volunteers that helped in many ways this year. I also want to thank everyone who has made these past six year at WLS special in my 40 years of school ministry. God Bless the Ministry of Woodburn Lutheran School as you continue to teach God’s children in the Woodburn community.

WLS night at the Woodburn Corner Café is Monday, June 15^th from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Woodburn Corner café will donate 15% of sales to WLS!  Please come enjoy great food and support our school.

We will be holding our Graduation/Baccalaureate Service in the WLS gym tomorrow evening, June 5^th, beginning at 7:00. We will recognize those having completed our 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grades this year, as all of these students will be moving on to new schools next year. Everyone is welcome to attend and wish these students well as they end their time at Woodburn Lutheran School.

Golf Outing – This year is the 7^th Annual WLS Golf Outing and it will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, July 19^th at the Cedar Creek Golf Club.  This has become an annual and extremely successful fundraising event for WLS.    If you know anyone – i.e., WLS Alumni, personal friends, friend of WLS or avid golfers, please help us by getting Golf Outing information to that person(s). Or, let Sandy Kammeyer know and she’ll be glad to send the information.  Everyone doing a little will result in great things!

Vacation Bible School -  VBS will be held on July 13^th-16^th at WLS.  Ages welcome are 3 years thru 5^th Grade.  This year we are excited to have Mark’s Ark join us for a special presentation by with an expert animal handler.  Sign up sheets for VBS are attached, please fill them out and return them to WLS, Christ Lutheran or Zion Lutheran Churches.  

Pizza Hut -  Mark your calendars!  Thursday, July 9^th, from 5-9 is Pizza Hut night for WLS.  Attached to the newsletter is a coupon.  Simply bring the coupon to Northwood Pizza Hut, enjoy your favorite pizza, and WLS will get 10% of the total sales.  You must have the attached coupon with you.  You may make as many copies as you want and pass them out to all your friends and family.  This coupon is valid for dine-in, carry out, or delivery.

From the office - A school supply list for the 2009/2010 school year along with a physical form for the students who may be eligible for sports were sent home.  Please take time over the summer to have your physicals done and return them to the school office by registration day. 

Meijer Community Rewards Program – This is an easy money maker for the school.  If you shop at Meijer stop in at the school office, sign up when you visit Meijer  next, or you can even sign up on line at www.meijer.com/rewards.  The organization code is 722806. Fill this in and the school receives money any time you shop!  If you sign up for a Meijer credit card the school earns a higher percentage. 

Scrip News - We will be selling scrip this summer so make sure you continue to buy.  You can drop your order off at the school office and the secretary will call to have it filled.  If you would like to call me at home you can do that.  We are also selling scrip every Sunday at Zion and Christ Churches.  Scrip is a wonderful fund raiser for our school as well as a great opportunity to add some funds into your own personal tuition fund account.  This tuition account is used by you to reduce your tuition cost for the 2009/2010 school year here at WLS.  Thank you, Jennifer Osborn.

Kitchen News - We all would like to thank Mrs. Swanson for all her hard work preparing lunches for our hungry students.  You will be missed!

Thank you to everyone who applied for the cooks position for next year.  We had great candidates to choose from.  We would like to welcome Rachel Singley to the kitchen for the 09/10 school year.  Mrs. Singley has a daughter here at WLS who will start Kindergarten next year.

PSAS Forms -  Private School Aid Service forms are available in the school office for tuition assistance.  If you would like to fill one out, please call the school office.

Chicken Bar-B-Que - The Woodburn Fire Department would like to invite everyone Sunday, June 21^st (Father’s Day) from 10-2 to the annual Chicken BBQ.  All proceeds will be matched by Modern Woodmen and donated to the Woodburn Fire Department to purchase equipment for the tanker unit.  For preorders please call Carolyn Rekeweg at 632-5347.
