Fully Rely On God

      F.R.O.G.

Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
JANUARY 8, 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR! – With the start of a new decade, we renew our faith in God’s promises: “I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Joshua 1:5.  Isn’t that an amazing Bible verse?  No matter what the future brings – relating to the economy, the government, the world, our families, whatever, God has

promised that He will always be with us and that no one can snatch us out of His hand.  That is very comforting in times of uncertainty and change; God is always with us.  He shares in our joys and He’s there to carry us through our sorrow.  He has given us eternal life.  Nothing can take that away!  May your 2010 be so blessed with this sure faith in Jesus so that together we can “Fully Rely on God” for everything.

WLS and the Staubs are currently leaning on their faith in God as Mrs. Arlys Stuab is now on medical leave.  We pray that she continues to return to full health and we wish her God’s healing and every blessing.  Cards of greeting and well wishes may be sent to her home.

Sara Fleek and Chris Isenbarger are team teaching the Kindergarten class and will complete the school year.  We are confident that there will be a smooth transition for our Kindergarten children.

On a personal note, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all the students of Woodburn Lutheran for their generous Christmas gifts to the teachers and staff members.  We are so thankful for your kindess and thoughtfulness during this wonderful Christmas season.  May you be blessed as you have blessed each of us.  May you have a truly wonderful new year!  With Jesus’ love – a HUGE thank you for ALL of us teachers!!

JV Boys Basketball – The coaches and players have been working hard and have come a long way.  The team is learning and improving every day, and all the boys are having fun, too!  They have two away games next week and our last home game is on 1/21 vs. Central and will end our season on 1/30 with a tourney at Emmaus.  Come out and support these Wildcats!

Thank you - for the Christmas gifts from my students.  I enjoyed the cards the 5th/6th and Kindergarten classes made for me.  The prayers of my concern and encouragement are being answered as God helps me recover.  Sometimes it is difficult to be patient, yet I am reassured that God is always with me.  Psalm 86 is a comfort to me.

God’s Blessings,

Arlys Stuab

Thank you – Thanks to the teachers and to the PTL for the gift cards.  It was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated.  We enjoy working with the children’s choir and the chimers.  They are a great group of children.  We also appreciate the help from the teachers.

God bless you all!

Beverly Rekeweg and Sharon Gerig

Grandparent Reading – First and Second Grade Grandparent Reading begins on Thursday, January 21.  It will start at 9:45 and will last until 10:50.  Many grandparents choose to stay for lunch.  Grandparent Reading is every Thursday until May 1st.  Please let Mrs. Warnock know if your first or second grader has an available grandparent or not.  We will pair those that do not have a grandparent with a senior citizen from the churches who love to help.

WLS...Come Grow With Us!

The Christian school movement is the fastest growing educational movement in America today.  The U.S.NEWS AND WORLD REPORT and CHRISTIAN LIFE magazines have referred to the rapid proliferation of Christian elementary and secondary schools as the “Boom in Protestant Schools” and “The Christian School Explosion.”  Christian schools are currently being established across the United States at the rate of two new schools a day.

In California we average one new Christian school each week.  Obviously parents by the thousands have opted to send their youngsters to Christian schools as opposed to secular public schools.  Over the next several weeks, ten reasons why you should send your children to a Christian school will be shared by  a parent who sends my children to Christian schools and speaks to thousands of parents on the radio and on tour.

ONE: You are accountable to God for what your children are taught in school.  Proverbs 22:6 is a direct command to parents.  It says, “Train up a child in the way he should go…” What your children are taught in school should be a direct extension of your parental views.  The teachers under whom your children are taught should be the kind of teachers you would personally hire if your children were being educated in your home.

TWO: Christian schools offer a better level of instruction.  There is no question about it.  The test scores over a long period of years are conclusive.  The annual Stanford Achievement Test administered to first through eighth grade Christian school students in the western states shows these students to be seven to nineteen months ahead of the national norm in reading, and seven to thirteen months ahead of the national norm in all subject areas.

Spelling Bee

WLS will have its Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 14th at 1:30 pm.   This is for all students Grades 4-6.  The person who wins the WLS Spelling Bee will go on to the Allen County Spelling Bee sometime in February.  Good luck to all!

Scrip News The New Year is here.  Make scrip buying part of your New Year's Resolution.  Scrip is not only a great gift but it is great to use every day for yourself.  Everyone needs to put gas in their car.  You can buy a Marathon, Speedway or Walmart scrip to buy your gas.  Don't forget your scrip for grocery shopping.  We have Kroger/Scott's and Walmart Scrip available on hand.  Don't forget to buy your Kohl's and Fashion Bug scrip to pay off your charge cards from the holidays!

Scrip is sold at WLS kitchen 8-9:30 while school is in session and at Christ and Zion churches on Sundays.

Chimers – All of the chimers, Grades 4-6, will be chiming at the Kingston Retirement Residence on Washington Center Road on Friday, January 15th.  We will take the bus and we will chime for Mrs. Alice Dix, the person whose generous donation made the purchase of these chimes possible.  We thank Sharon Gerig and Bev Rekeweg for arranging this special outing.  More details will be provided next week.
