Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
JANUARY 8, 2009

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for each of our students. The students we prayed for this week included Lily Paul (Pre-K), Kyle Nahrwold (4th), Brock Fuller (Pre-K), and Morgan Gerig (7th).

Thank You – The teachers are very thankful for all those who came in and helped with the room Christmas parties. We are also thankful for the thoughtfulness and gifts from the students, families, and PTL. We are all blessed to be teaching here at WLS.

MLK Make-Up Date – I shouldn’t have said anything about not having missed any school in the last Paw Prints. With two Snow Days so far, we will use both Monday, January 19th, which we would have had off for Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day on February 16th as make-up days. Since these are extra days only for us, there will be no EACS bus transportation on those days unless EACS decides to make up either of those days as well. Parents will need to transport their children to and from school on their own.

JV Basketball – Our JV girls will finish up their season next Monday with a home game against Central Lutheran School beginning at 4:15. The JV boys will also play Central on Monday. Their game will begin at 5:30. The boys will also play another home game next Wednesday against St. Peter beginning at 5:30. Come out and cheer our teams on for these last few home games.

The boys’ game that we missed this week will be rescheduled for Tuesday, January 20th, at St. Paul beginning at 4:00.

End of the 2nd Quarter – With the additional Snow Day this week, we will be extending our 2nd Quarter until next Wednesday, Jan. 14th. Report cards will come out next Monday, Jan. 19th.

Blue and White Spirit Day – Since next Monday’s Basketball games will be the last for the girls and one of the last for the boys, we will designate that day as Blue and White Spirit Day. The students are encouraged to wear Blue and White during the day. We will also hold a short Pep Rally at the end of the school day to cheer both of our teams on.

Recycling – Unfortunately recycling was canceled last month due to the icy conditions. We were mostly concerned for the safety of the students and parents scheduled to work. We will hope for better weather this month on Saturday, January 17th, when many families will come with two months worth of recyclables. The following are the scheduled workers for that day from 9-12:   Brice Rekeweg, Spencer Sharrar, Morgan Gerig, Allison Messman, Nick Sharrar, and the following plus a parent; Dylan Gerig, Elliott Gunderman, Madison Swanson.

Student Helpers -  Some of you may not know that we have a number of student helpers in our school on a regular basis.  We have three high school students who help in the mornings.  All three are WLS alumni and seniors at Woodlan.  They are Ben Schlie, Aury Keller, and Megan Stites.  We also have one Taylor University student doing student teaching in our Pre-K program during January.  Her name is Abby Kennerk.  It is a blessing to have them here learning to work with children and helping our teachers at the same time.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, January 14, will be held at Christ at 8:15 a.m. Pastor Adams will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of December and January will be designated to Lutheran Blind Mission.

Do you shop at Office Depot? -  If you do, please use our WLS School ID Number when you check out – 1203185457, we receive 5% of your total purchase price to use when we buy school supplies (most of our supplies are purchased at Office Depot).  So far this school year we have received merchandise gift cards for over $150 from their 5% Back To Schools Program to use on our supplies.  Thank you to everyone who participates.

Recycling Ink Cartridges and Cell phones   We received a check from Advantage Cartridge Company for all the used ink cartridges and cell phones.  They have recently added recycling Laptops and iPods, so please bring them into the school office, even if they do not work, we can still get money from them.  Thank you for your help!
