Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
JANUARY 30, 2009

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for each of our students. The students we prayed for this week included: Noah Brenneke (Pre-K), Rachel Sisson (Pre-K), Rachel Scharr (2nd), and Jacob Gentz (2nd).

WLS Open House – Woodburn Lutheran School will hold an Open House on Sunday, February 8th, from noon until 3:00. This is part of a district-wide Open House for all of the Lutheran schools in the Ft. Wayne area. You may see some of these ads on TV or hear them on the radio. Families looking to find the nearest Lutheran schools to where they live can check out www.northeastindianalutheranschools.org. Please share this information with any of your friends in the whole Ft. Wayne area and also here in Woodburn.

JV Boys’ Basketball – Our JV boys finished off a busy week and their season last Thursday with a victory over St. Peter Immanuel. Congratulations to the boys.

Family Loss – The father of Karen Hoeppner, DuWayne Sorgen, passed away earlier this week on Tuesday. We keep her and her family in our prayers.   Viewing is Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville from 1-4 and 6-8.  Funeral service is 11 am Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Monroeville.

Wrestling – We will begin wrestling practice February 2nd from 3-5. Boys in grade 4th to 8th may participate. The coach will be Brian Kitzmiller.

Family Bowling Day -  PTL is pleased to invite our WLS families to the PTL Family Bowling Day to be held at Woodburn Lanes on March 7th.  Sign up sheets are being sent home with each student and we ask that they be completed and returned to school by Friday, February 13th.  There is no charge for our WLS families; shoe rental and bowling fees are included.  Lots of fun to be had with pizza and breadsticks served too -- we look forward to seeing you there!

Fish Fry Committee Meeting -  Tuesday, February 18th at 7:00 will be the first Fish Fry committee meeting.  Committee members:  McConnell, Meyer, Adams, Bratten, Douglas, Gentz, Gerbers, Gerig (Tim & Susan), Gunderman, Hathaway, Hoeppner (Mark & Chris), Klopfenstein, Osborn (Jennifer), Phillips, Scharr, Swanson.

SCRIP NEWS –We have a couple gift cards left over from Christmas time that are on-hand and we would like to get rid of them.  Lowes we have $25 and Red Lobster/ Olive Garden  2 at $25.  The Red Lobster/Olive Garden card is wonderful because it can be used at either place.  We are still selling scrip at Zion and Christ Churches on Sundays, and in the kitchen everyday that school is open from 7:45 to 9:00.

Attention WLS, Christ and Zion members -   To help the school save money on paper, I’m asking anyone who would be interested in receiving the Paw Prints via email instead of the paper copy, please email me at woodburnlutheran@comcast.net and let me know.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, February 4, will be held at Christ at 8:15 a.m. Mr. Hoyer will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of February and March will be designated to Hope Center for unwanted pregnancies to help with milk, bottles, and diapers.

Acolytes -  Sunday, February 1, acolyte for Zion Lutheran Church – Spencer Osborn.

Meijer Community Rewards Program – This is an easy money maker for the school.  If you shop at Meijer & wish to join, stop in at the school office, sign up when you visit Meijer  next, or you can even sign up on line at www.meijer.com/rewards.  The organization code is 722806. Fill this in and the school receives money any time you shop!  If you sign up for a Meijer credit card the school earns a higher percentage.   The school earns double rewards in October.  If you have any questions, feel free to call the school secretary.
