and Lead Me

Prayer Cards – Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Cody Bratten (2nd), Gavin Palmer (Pre-K), Kelley Sisson (Pre-K), and Madison Swanson (5th). The school families who we lifted up in prayer included: the William and Valerie Bratten family, the Ryan and Courtney Reichhart family, the Richmond and Claire Paul family, and the Jared McMahan family.

National Lutheran Schools Week (March 2 – 8) – You will start to hear more about National Lutheran Schools Week in the next few weeks. This special week celebrates Lutheran education in the United States. Nationwide, there are 1,368 Lutheran Preschools, 1,018 Lutheran Elementary schools, 102 Lutheran high schools, 10 Lutheran colleges, and 2 Lutheran seminaries. We are happy to be part of this educational system of Lutheran schools that has such a rich history. There will be a number of special activities planned for this week all culminating with our spring musical “King of the Jungle” presented on Friday, March 7th, at 9:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Mid-Quarter Grades – Because of the five snow days, we will be sending mid-quarter grades home on Monday, February 25th rather than Tuesday, February 19th. We may also delay the final 3rd quarter report cards a few days, but will still get them out before Spring Break, which begins after school on Friday, March 28th.

Wrestling Matches Begins – Our wrestling schedule begins next Thursday, February 21, when we host four teams in the season’s kick-off match. Come and join the excitement beginning at 4:15 in our gym.

Jump Rope Day – Thanks to all of you who participated in the Jump Rope for your Health program today. All of the donations need to be turned in to the office. Prize awards will be delivered after we turn in all of the donations.

WE HAVE A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL NEXT MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18 – EAST ALLEN COUNTY DOES NOT HAVE SCHOOL – NO BUS SERVICE NEXT MONDAY.

Christ Primary Choir sings this Sunday, February 17, in the 8:00 a.m. service.

Journey to the Cross – Christ and Zion Lutheran Churches continue the Lenten Season with the second week in Lent on February 20, 7:00 p.m. The theme for February 20 is: “The Promise of an Inheritance”, based on Matthew 5:5 – “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth”. Light suppers will be served at both churches from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Lenten Services continue on Wednesday evenings through March 12.  There are also 11:00 a.m. services each Wednesday during Lent at Christ Lutheran Church. ALL ARE WELCOME!

SCRIP NEWS

With February in full swing, it won’t be long until our 8th graders are to be confirmed. Remember that we have SCRIP for buying all of the supplies for your parties (also, in May and June, there will be graduation parties!). We have Gordon’s Foods and Sam’s SCRIP for buying in bulk. We also have Anchor Room SCRIP if you want to buy something special for your confirmand or graduate.

Some SCRIP News . . . Smokey Bones is no longer available. They have sold the business but they will be honoring the cards already purchased (through December 31, 2009). The cards are good for the other restaurants that are listed on the card – Red Lobster and Olive Garden). Pizza Hut is lowering their percentage from 9% to 8% effective now. Value City is closing many of their stores (no word on which ones yet) and we will no longer be able to get their SCRIPS. TCBY and Mrs. Field’s are back. They have decided to go back to offering SCRIP to us and are available now.

Did you know???? We have some very exciting news about the Walmart?Sam’s cards that are available on hand every day. The SCRIP cards are also good for gas at the Walmart store. The great news is that we not only get 2% back to the school, but you will also get the $.03 per gallon reduced price.

Did you see that there is a new Marathon Jumbo card that you can order? The card is $250, so it will last for many fill-ups and it is 4% instead of the 3% for the $25 cards.

Are you heading for warmer places? We have a selection on our pre-ordered forms for some popular places to go while you are there! We have a large selection of hotels and motels. Do you like to eat at Rain Forest or Bennigans? These places are not in Fort Wayne, but they are favorite places to visit on vacation.

We are still selling SCRIP every day at school (when school is in session) – from 7:30-9:00 a.m.

    Thanks!   The SCRIP CREW

Woodburn Lutheran School Repairs: We are in need of some gentlemen to help with a few projects at school. We need to clean out the registers in the classrooms to help promote better air flow of heat. There will need to be a bit of trim work to remove and then replace when the project is complete, as these registers are located under the windows. I am also looking for some help to replace weather stripping on some of our outside doors. There are other projects to work on as well, but these are the immediate ones. If you are willing to help with this project, please contact me – Bambi Keller, 632-4335, or contact the school office (632-5493). Thank you.
