Prayer Cards - Each
morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also
regularly pray for each of our students. The students we prayed for this week
included: Isaiah Mata (Pre-K), Alivia Kelly (Pre-K), Cheyenne Hoeppner (6th),
and Caroline Hoeppner (6th).
Mid- Quarter Grades –
Mid-Quarter grades for the third quarter will be coming home next Wednesday,
February 18th. Please look for them on that day. If you have any
concerns about your child’s grades, please contact to teacher and set up a
conference.
Make-Up Day – Next
Monday, February 16, which was scheduled as a day off for Presidents’ Day, will
be a day that we make-up. Since there is no school for EACS District, parents
will need to provide transportation for their children on that day.
Math Counts – Mr. Staub
is taking a few of our students to IPFW this Saturday to compete in the annual
Math Counts competition. Included on our team will be Billy Wilkes, Sam
Hathaway, Tyler Knapp, and Shawn Kitzmiller. Good Luck to the team.
WLS Association Meeting
– We are still working out budget issues for the 2009 – 2010 school year and
need to call another WLS Association meeting for Sunday, February 22nd,
beginning at 4:00 in the gym. Please attend if at all possible.
ISTEP Testing – Now that
the state of Indiana is going to spring testing, we will have ISTEP tests this
spring also. There will be two parts to the spring tests. The first part will be
held from March 2 – 11 and the second part will go from April 27 – May 6.
National Lutheran Schools
Week – We will celebrate NLSW the first week in March, the 1st –
8th. We have a number of special activities and days scheduled for
this week. Parents and grandparents may want to note a few of the special days
so that they can join us on the days they want to.
NLSW Special Activities:
Monday, March 2nd
– PTL Breakfast 7:00 – 8:00. We will also begin the day with prayers around the
flagpole starting at about 8:15. Preschool-6th learn fire safety with
the Learn Not To Burn program. We will celebrate Dr. Suise’ Birthday. (Hat
Day)
Tuesday, March 3rd
– We will go caroling to shut-ins, since we missed out at Christmas. (Blue and
White Day)
Wednesday, March 4th
– Mr. Staub will hold chapel at Christ beginning about 8:15. We will have a
Bible Trivia contest with the chapel families. (Dress-up Day)
Thursday, March 5th
– Join the students for a special lunch day. A sign-up sheet will be sent home
next week so that we’ll know just how many adults will be joining us for lunch.
Also, Preschool-2nd the Zoo will come in and have a special
assembly. (Christian T-shirt Day)
Friday, March 6th
– This will be a bowling day. Grades 5 – 8 will bowl in the morning and K- 4
will bowl in the afternoon. (Wacky Dress Day)
Sunday, March 8th
– Choirs will be singing in the church services.
Wrestling - There will
be a meeting for all the parents for boys wrestling Monday, February 16,
starting at 5:00.
Friendship Sunday at Zion
Lutheran Church -
Zion would like to invite you
to worship with us on Sunday, February 15th at 9:00am for “Friendship
Sunday”. Following the service please join us for brunch and a special concert
featuring Don Wharton. We look forward to seeing you!
Chapel News - Next
Wednesday’s chapel service, February 18, will be held at Christ at 8:15 a.m.
Pastor Edwards will lead. Chapel offerings for the months of February and March
will be designated to Hope Center in Fort Wayne. The center provides free
services to clients such as pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds, education and
material assistance. Their services help save lives, heal the hurt and
strengthen families. Woodburn Lutheran is participating in their Baby Bottle
Campaign and we will also be asking for baby diapers, baby wipes and gently used
baby clothing. There are extra baby bottles in the office for anyone who has
spare change to donate. Watch for more information about the extra donations.
Box Tops for Education -
We will be sending in this year’s Box Tops at the end of the month. If you
have any at home, please send them in to the school office by Monday, February
23.
Concession Workers needed -
Wrestling meets will be starting up at the end of February, and we need your
help. A Concession Worker Form was sent home with each non-wrestling student in
grades 5-8 last week. We’ve only had three families turn in the forms. If you
could please, volunteer your time and help we would appreciate it. The dates
are February 24 and March 9. Please fill out the paperwork and sent it to the
school office, or call 632-5493.
Recycling
- Saturday, February 21, is the monthly recycling from 9-12. Scheduled
workers are: Brice Rekeweg, Lucas Scharr, Dylan Gerig, Caroline Hoeppner,
Allison McConnell, Kendra Sinclair, Buddy Douglas, and the following plus a
parent; Caroline Meyer, Torie Moore, Madison Swanson. Recycling could use a
couple extra hands this week if anyone would like to stay and help their child
it would be appreciated.
Advantage Cartridge -
We have a scheduled pick up for all the recycled ink cartridges on February
19. If anyone has any to drop off please do so.
