Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
DECEMBER 18, 2008

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Kendra Sinclair (7th), Max Adams (Pre-K), Cole Osborn (4th), and Sam Hathaway (7th).

Basketball Results – Our JV girls’ and boys’ teams played Zion Lutheran School, Decatur, this past Monday. Both of our teams lost, but both teams are improving and especially the girls looked much improved.

We will not be playing again until after Christmas break when we will only be playing St. Paul boys on Wednesday, January 7th, at St. Paul beginning at 5:30.

End of the 2nd Quarter – The Friday we return from Christmas Break, January 9th, will be the end of the 2nd quarter. Report cards will come out on Wednesday, January 14th.

WLS Spelling Bee – We will hold our school spelling bee on Friday, January 9th. Our top speller  will represent WLS in additional regional bees.

Thank You – The staff and faculty of WLS are thankful for all the thoughtfulness expressed by our students and families at this Christmas time. We pray that everyone enjoys their Christmas Break and returns safely in the New Year.

Recycling -  Saturday, December 20, is the monthly recycling from 9-12.  Scheduled workers are:   Dylan Gerig, Shawn Kitzmiller, Tyler Knapp, Morgan Gerig, Buddy Douglas, and the following plus a parent; Torie Moore, Caroline Meyer, Elliott Gunderman, and Madison Swanson.

1st Grade Grandparent Reading will begin Thursday, January 29.  If you are interested in helping with this wonderful program, please call Rachel in the school office at 632-5493 so we can make sure all the kids have someone to read with.  Some of our 1st graders do not have grandparents in the area, so we need help!  Each grandparent reader is required to complete a volunteer form.  Please come into the school office to pick up a form.  If you filled out a form last year, you will not need to fill out another one.

SCRIP NEWS -  The Scrip program has really gotten busy over the past couple of weeks.  We are selling scrip faster then we can order them in.  But this is a good thing!!!  That means that everyone is taking advantage of buying all your Christmas gift cards with us (saving you time and gas running all over town to get them) and everyone will be helping out the school with fund raising.  We have everyone’s favorite store.  We have even ordered a few extra On-Hand cards that you might be interested in this time of year.  We still have a few, for a limited time; Best Buy $25 and Red Lobster/ Olive Garden $25 On-Hand.  The Red Lobster/Olive Garden card is a wonderful gift because it can be used at either place.  So the person you are buying for can choose what restaurant sounds good to them.

Did you put a lot of gifts on credit cards?  Don’t forget that you can pay your charge card account with scrip at Kohl’s, JCPenny’s, and Lowe’s.  But we have just found out that we are able to do the same with Fashion Bug.  So now all you have to do is order your fashion Bug scrip and pay your account and bring in 6% profit to the school.

We are still selling scrip at Zion and Christ Churches on Sundays and in the kitchen everyday that school is open from 7:30AM to 9:00AM.  We will be back in the kitchen Jan. 5th.

Chapel News -  The next chapel service, January 7, will be held at WLS at 8:10 a.m. Mr. Staub will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of December and January will be designated to Lutheran Blind Mission
