Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
DECEMBER 12, 2008

    Our Mission is Fishin’

Prayer Cards - Each morning our teachers meet for devotions as we prepare for our day. We also regularly pray for our students and each school family. The students we prayed for this week included Tori Moore (5th), Brynn Phillips (2nd), Ed Stuckey (Pre-K), and Audrey Witmer (Pre-K).

Basketball Results – Our JV boys’ team played Wyneken Lutheran School this past Monday. We are happy to report that they won their first game of the year. Congratulations to the boys and to their coach, Josh Adams, who got his first win ever as a coach.

Next Monday, both girls and boys will play at Zion, Decatur. This will be our last game before the Christmas break.

WLS Christmas Program – Our WLS Christmas program, “Live from Caesar’s Palace” will be presented in our school gym next Thursday, Dec. 18th. There will be a 9:00 AM dress rehearsal performance and an evening 7:00 performance. Everyone is invited to attend and bring all your relatives and friends.

Santa Claus – Movies – Popcorn -  Santa Claus is coming to Woodburn!  Saturday, December 13, is an open house from 1-4 and everyone in the community is invited.  Have your picture taken with Santa and watch animated Christmas movies while enjoying popcorn. Sponsored by Christ Lutheran Church.  A flyer will be going out on Monday about this event.

Recycling Ink Cartridges and Cell phones   We received a total of $87.84 from Advantage Cartridge Company for all the used ink cartridges and cell phones.  They have recently added recycling Laptops and iPods, so please bring them into the school office.  even if they do not work, we can still get money from them.  Thank you for your help!

Thank You – Thanks to all of the students who participated in throwing pies at their favorite teachers. This was all for a good cause and brought in over $170. This Tuesday we delivered canned goods, Christmas gifts, and food gift cards to the family we sponsored through the Ft. Wayne Christmas Bureau. It is good to see our student involved in helping others in need in this way.

Caroling – Our students will go caroling to some of the church shut-ins next Friday morning. If you know of any shut-ins who would like to be caroled to, please let the office know.

1st Grade Grandparent Reading will begin Thursday, January 29.  If you are interested in helping with this wonderful program, please call Rachel in the school office at 632-5493 so we can make sure all the kids have someone to read with.  Some of our 1st graders do not have grandparents in the area, so we need help!  Each grandparent reader is required to complete a volunteer form.  Please come into the school office to pick up a form.  If you filled out a form last year, you will not need to fill out another one.

Recycling -  Saturday, December 20, is the monthly recycling from 9-12.  Scheduled workers are:   Dylan Gerig, Shawn Kitzmiller, Tyler Knapp, Morgan Gerig, Buddy Douglas, and the following plus a parent; Torie Moore, Caroline Meyer, Elliott Gunderman, and Madison Swanson.

SCRIP NEWS - The Scrip program has really gotten busy over the past couple of weeks.  We are selling scrip faster then we can order them in.  But this is a good thing!!!  That means that everyone is taking advantage of buying all your Christmas gift cards with us (saving you time and gas running all over town to get them) and everyone will be helping out the school with fund raising.  We have gift cards from everyone’s favorite store.  We have even ordered a few extra On-Hand cards that you might be interested in this time of year.  For a limited time we will be carrying Best Buy $25 and Red Lobster/ Olive Garden $25 On-Hand.  The Red Lobster/Olive Garden card is a wonderful gift because it can be used at either place, so the person you are buying for can choose what restaurant sounds good to them.  Time is running short to get your preordered scrip in for Christmas. If you would like to have preordered scrip you will need to order it by:

At school  no later than 9:00 on Monday, December 15 and you will get it back no later than Dec. 18.

At Church   Sunday, December 14 and you will get it back no later than Sunday, Dec. 21.

We are still selling scrip at Zion and Christ Churches on Sundays, and in the kitchen everyday that school is open from 7:30 to 9:00.  The last day of selling in the kitchen will be Friday, Dec. 19 until after the New Year.

Chapel News -  Next Wednesday’s chapel service, December 17, will be held at Christ at 8:15 a.m. Pastor Edwards will lead.  Chapel offerings for the months of December and January will be designated to Lutheran Blind Mission.

Attention Zion Choir Parents -  Please note that on December 17th the Zion Primary and Junior choirs will sing at the Advent service.  Please have them in the fellowship hall by 6:45.  Just a note, there are light suppers served before the advent services.
