Fully Rely On God

Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
DECEMBER 11, 2009

We are in that busy time of year, with busy schedules, hectic preparations for the upcoming holidays; we are often pulled in so many directions. Stop to hear the Babe in the Manger. Let His cry greet your ears and know that the cry says, “I am here.  I love you and will die for you. I will take you to heaven. Just believe.”

By the power of the Holy Spirit, may we all see and understand this important Gospel message. May the words of the familiar Christmas Carol ring true for each of us:  Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay Close by me forever and love me, I pray Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,And take us to heaven to live with thee there.”

~~Ruth

Christmas Caroling & Celebration – Grades K thru 6 are scheduled to go caroling, weather permitting, on Tuesday, December 21, from 9-10:30 am.  Drivers will be needed and the official request was sent home yesterday.  The children will return to school only to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate!  In the afternoon, the teachers/volunteers will hold Christmas parties.  Watch for information to come home from your teachers/volunteers.

Christmas – Santa Shop – A big thank you goes out to all those that helped set up and run the Shop as well as those families that supported the effort by allowing their children to shop for all those perfect gifts!

WLS...Come Grow With Us!

Did you know…

Some research suggests that small-sized schools and relatively small classes can have advantages, including possibly leading to higher achievement.  This research has found that placing students in small groups tends to foster close working relationships between teachers and students, thus enhancing learning particularly among at-risk students and those in the early grades.  Fairly small schools are also believed to promote teachers’ commitment to collaborative work and to support the development of a “professional community of learners” that Newmann and Whlage (1995) consider useful for high student achievement.  School size is typically related to the population density of the local area and its age distribution of children; for private schools, local demand for a school’s instructional philosophy also contributes to size enrollment.  The average private school had 193 students while the public school had 535 students.  Among private schools, 80 percent had enrollment of fewer than 300, compared with 29 percent of public schools.

Holiday shopping – Christmas is just around the corner.  Do you have all your shopping done?  Scrip are great for those last minute gifts and stocking stuffers.

What teen wouldn't love Marathon or Speedway gas cards in their stocking.  Or maybe a girt card to their favorite restaurant!  We have fast food and sit-down restaurants available.

For those who are just plain hard to buy for how about a gift card so they can pick out something that they would like.

You can also buy gift cards to purchase gifts yourself.  If you are going to Walmart to buy gifts you can order Walmart Scrip to shop.

Don't forget when your bill for Kohl's and Fashion Bug arrives after the Holidays you can order scrip to make your payment at the store.

We have some extra Scrip on hand for Christmas.  This week we have $25 Texas Roadhouse, $25 Olive Garden/Red Lobster, $25 Best Buy, $25 Dick's Sporting Goods and $25 Gordon's Food Service.  The number we have on hand are limited and are given out on a first come first serve basis so get yours right away.

Monday Dec. 14 is the last day to place an order to get scrip before Christmas.

You can get Scrip at Zion and Christ Churches on Sunday and Mon-Fri 8-9 at WLS (when school is in session).  If there are any questions you can call Jennifer Osborn at 632-5493.

CLC Program – Christ Lutheran Christmas program will be Christmas Eve at 7:00pm. If you would like your child (ages 3 - college age) to participate, practices are Sunday mornings at 9:15am.  You do not need to be a member of the church to participate. Everyone is welcome.  Call or email Dana Klopfenstein if you have any questions.  410-2750 or
