Our Mission is Fishin’
Our Mission is Fishin’ Matthew 4:19 – “Come
follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
Our new school theme this year
is “Our Mission is Fishin’”. Everyone can expect to see many fish posters and
bulletin boards about fish this year. We want our students to understand their
part in helping to spread the Good News to others – To be fishers of men.
Chapel Invitation – I would like to let
everyone know that they are always welcome to come and visit school on
Wednesday mornings for chapel services. We alternate between our gym and
walking to Christ Lutheran Church like we did this week. The services usually
begin after the bus arrives and the classrooms get organized or about 8:10.
Check the weekly Paw Prints and check the location and the speaker, then come
and join your child for the service. Next Wednesday, August 27th,
Dave and Bev Hoeppner will be guest speakers talking about their mission work in
India. That chapel service will be in our gym beginning about 8:10.
Volunteer Forms – Remember that all
volunteers this year need to fill out the new volunteer form to be allowed to
work with our students. Everyone received these forms at registration last week.
Please fill these out and get them into the school office so that when it comes
time to volunteer, all the paperwork will already be taken care of.
2008 – 2009 Teaching Staff
– We are blessed this year to have the same teaching staff as we did last year.
That staff includes:
Principal – Dexter Hoyer
Pre-School - Emma Hockemeyer
Kindergarten – Arlys Staub
1st Grade – Linda Schlie
2nd Grade – Bonnie
Hoffschneider
3rd and 4th
Grades – Karen Hoeppner
5th and 6th
Grades – Ruth Schroeder
7th and 8th
Grades – Scott Staub
P.M. Part Time – Wendy Singer
We do welcome our new school
secretary, Rachel Trygg, to the WLS office. Stop in and introduce yourselves to
her so that she can get to know all of our school families.
Harlan Parade – Many
thanks to all of the students and parents who marched with us in the Harlan
Days’ Parade the beginning of this month. We had a great day marching and
handing out fliers and candy. It is good to let others in our communities know
more about WLS.
Zion Lutheran Church 2nd
Annual Picnic & Carnival – Come join the fun tomorrow, Saturday, August 23,
from 3-7 p.m. This FREE picnic and carnival held at Zion Lutheran Church on
Bull Rapids will have plenty of carnival games, face painting, moon walk, and
even the dunk tank. There will be plenty of delicious food: famous taco salad,
nachos, sloppy joes, and cotton candy. Games for all ages and door prizes!! Come
to this great event and bring a friend. There will also be delicious baked
goods auctioned off at 6 P.M.
Scrip News - Hello to
everyone from the Scrip Crew! We are very excited to begin a new year of scrip
selling. We are trying to get a few new scrips for this year so we will let you
know when the new forms are out. Don’t forget to stop in and see The Jennys in
the kitchen in the morning to get your scrip orders filled. This really is a
great fundraiser for the school and it helps you with tuition costs for the
2009-10 school year. We would like to thank Heather Pyle for helping with the
scrip program for the last year. It really helped to have another person on the
Crew. If there are any questions about the scrip program just ask Jenny Osborn
or Jenny Swanson in the kitchen at the school.
Paw Prints will be
composed and printed each Wednesday. If you have information you would like to
include, please give it to the school secretary by Wednesday morning. You can
also e-mail the information to
woodburnlutheran@comcast.net
If you would like a copy of the
Paw Prints e-mailed to you weekly, send us your e-mail address and we will add
you to the list.

On behalf of the Golf Outing
Committee, THANK YOU to EVERYONE that participated as a golfer or as a
hole sponsor in the 6th Annual WLS Golf Outing that was held in
July. It was another great day for the outing, and it was, again, a successful
fundraiser. If you haven’t participated in the past, we strongly urge you to
consider doing so next summer. Even if you aren’t a golf pro, we can
guarantee you’ll have a great time.
Thank you to Mark Fuller, Scott
& Nicole Kammeyer, Joel Buuck, Clarence Reichhart, Dexter Hoyer, Scott Staub,
Tom Keller, and Aury Keller for helping on work days. A special thank you to
Clarence for many extra hours tracking down supplies and completing several
tasks. WLS School Board
