Our Mission is Fishin’
ISTEP Testing – Part Two
of the Spring ISTEP test will begin next Monday, April 27. This section of the
test will be multiple choice type questions. Students should be encouraged to be
well rested that week and to do their very best.
Sentinel Scholars – Some
of you may have noticed the article about Sterling Sentinel Scholarships
announced in last week’s paper. There were 247 high school scholars listed in 14
different subject areas. One of our parents took the time to look through all of
the names. There were 12 Woodlan seniors chosen in different subject areas. Of
those 12 Woodlan students 6 of them were former WLS graduates. They included:
Cheri Knoblauch
Athletics
Kelly Wells
Business
Kearstyn Keller Drama
Rachel Hathaway English
Aury Keller
Mathematics
Ben Schlie
Science
We congratulate these former
WLS alumni and wish them well as they move on to college next year.
6th Grade Outdoor
Education – Our 6th grade class will be off to Camp Lutherhaven
next week for their three days of Outdoor Education from Wednesday to Friday.
Mr. Staub will accompany them as they learn a little about living in the
outdoors. The class will also have an opportunity to taste Mr. Staub’s famous
“Breakfast on a Stick”, “Fried Eggs in a Bag”, or “Barbequed Turkey in a Pit”.
Mid Quarter Grades – Mid
quarter reports will be sent home next Tuesday, April 28th. If you
have any concerns about your child’s grades, please contact their teacher to set
up a conference.
Concordia Theological
Seminary Playscape Project – After a few years of planning, a group from the
seminary is going to work putting up an area-wide playground. They are looking
for volunteers to help with the actual construction. The dates they are looking
for help are May 5th - 9th. Anyone who might be interested
in working on this project a little or a lot can contact the Playscape
Coordinator at 260-452-2223.
Acolytes - Sunday,
April 26th, acolyte for Zion Lutheran Church – Carly Huth.
Chapel News - Next
Wednesday’s chapel service, April 29th, will be held at WLS at 8:10
a.m. Mr. Hoyer will lead. Chapel offerings for the months of April and May will
be designated to Camp Lutherhaven.
WLS Rummage Sale -
Friday, May 8th, and Saturday, May 9th, we will be holding
our annual Rummage Sale. This sale helps to benefit our Pre-School Kaitlin Pyle
Scholarship fund. This is also the weekend for the city-wide garage sales here
in Woodburn. We are now taking items. They can be brought in and put on the
stage in the gym.
Zion Choirs will not be
singing this Sunday, April 26th, but instead will be singing Sunday,
May 10th.
Spring Flower Sales -
Our annual Spring Plant Sale will begin next week as a fundraiser for WLS. We
will be selling scrips to purchase flowers and plants at discounted prices from
the Greenhouse Effect, which is located just across the state line – a quick 10
minute drive. We’re pleased to be able to reduce our prices this year, thanks
to our friends at the Greenhouse Effect. For any questions, call Susan Gerig or
Deb Lindberg.
Mark your calendars for
May 1st - Pastor J. Brown will be presenting a Karate
Demonstration, Motivational Message, and Gospel Presentation through Breaking
Barriers – Christian Martial Arts Ministry. Everyone (students, youth,
parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc…) is invited and it will be held at WLS
gym. Presentation is from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, but come early to enjoy the

Thank you - We would
like to thank our WLS family for the prayers, visits, cards, and donations given
to us at the passing of our father and grandfather, Wilbur Rekeweg, and our
brother and uncle, Larry Alfeld. We are overwhelmed by the love and support we
have received. Thank you, Paul & Nettie Rekeweg, Ryan & Jenny Osborn & family,
Jarrod & Becky Dietel & family, Dan & Rachel Trygg & family.
WLS Lawn Mowing – For
the past few years, we have had different families volunteer to mow the grass
here at WLS for a week or two during the summer. The grass is starting to grow
and we need to put a list of volunteers together for this summer. If you can
volunteer for a week or two, please let Mr. Hoyer or Tim Gerig know soon. If
there are months or dates that you would prefer, let us know that as well.
