WLS Testimonials
The following are some testimonials from former WLS students.
I would like to add to these from any other
alumni who would like to submit them.
List your class and then
take a few minutes and tell how WLS has
influenced your lives up to this point in time
and how you believe your future lives will also
be touched by your time at WLS. [Email

I came to WLS in August
of 1978 from Emmaus Lutheran School in
Fort Wayne. I'll NEVER forget my first
day of school. At Emmaus all the classes
stayed in their rooms for different
subjects. It was the teachers who
switched rooms. After first period on
that first day at WLS the bell went off
and everybody went flying for the door!
I couldn't figure out what was going on.
Was there a fire drill? And why was
everyone taking their books?? Man. My
head was spinning! That is just one of
the many memories I can fondly recall
from my days at WLS. I hope everyone who
has had the WLS experience can truly say
that they were blessed to be there. Back
then new technology was a VCR that was
about the size of a suitcase. Mr. Dave
Hoeppner sure made it easier to learn by
taping shows from PBS and using them in
class. Mr. Staub had a NOAA weather
radio that always went off whenever they
tested the system. Speaking of Mr. Staub,
if any current students happen to read
this ask him to get out some pictures of
when he had his beard. That was a long
time ago! I also can't forget to mention
the friends I made there. Even though we
all have gone seperate ways and some are
no longer with us I still feel a special
bond exists between us all through WLS.
Sure, there were bad days
sprinkled in with the good but the
ENTIRE staff at WLS cared enough to make
things better. Even the cooks like Mrs.
Hirsch and Mrs. Vogtman would have a
smile and ask about your day.
Now, as a father of three daughters who
have also attended WLS I can only say
that our school is nothing but good.
Times have changed and society wants us
to put our rescources elsewhere but I
hope and pray that WLS will be here in
some form for future generations to take
advantage of.

- There is no better place to start an
education than at Woodburn Lutheran School. From
the first day of kindergarten to the last day of
eighth grade, no one ever lets you forget how
much Jesus cares about you. I am truly blessed
that I had the opportunity to start my Christian
education at WLS. We were fortunate enough to
spend everyday with our friends and teachers who
share the same faith. Along with the best
surroundings, we also received the best
education. Thank you to all of the teachers that
are devoted to helping us develop both mentally
and spiritually. Every graduate of WLS has an
advantage over students that graduated from
public schools. We know that when times get
tough, God will help us through. Knowing that
God is always there is enough to motivate anyone
throughout life.

- Woodburn Lutheran School is a
phenomenal place to go to school. There are
great teachers, and great students. Not only do
you get a great education, you get to learn
about Jesus every day. I only wish I could have
had more time at Woodburn Lutheran School.

I’m glad I spent my younger years at Woodburn
Lutheran School. I could be myself there
without judgment. All the teachers were so
supportive. They pushed me to do my best in
everything. Whether it was math class or the
spring musical, the teachers were always there
to believe in me. I have taken many memories
from WLS. I remember when I was a rapping wise
man in the Christmas play. Mr. Staub had to
teach me how to rap! I remember in third grade
when Miss Steffe got proposed to in front of our
entire class. Woodburn Lutheran School is a
great place to grow up. I felt I really grew in
my faith here. “Thank you” to all the staff at
WLS. You made my grade school years
unforgettable.

Many people forget the issues they go through as
junior high students. It’s probably one of the
hardest times as a teenager. With all the stuff
that was going through my head and raging
hormones, I was just glad I was at a school that
cared. Going to a public school like Woodlan at
that time would have put peer pressure on me on
top of everything else, and honestly I don’t
know what would have happened. I get very
emotional when anyone talks to me about WLS.
That school means so much to me and to my
family. Without it, I would not be the strong
Christian I am today. I would have fallen to
peer pressure in so many different areas. I am
proud to tell people where I went to school. WLS
has made a difference in my life and in so many
others as well. Six of the top ten students in
the Woodlan senior class are graduates of the
2005 Woodburn Lutheran School graduating class.
Almost of that class are in the top 20% at
Woodlan. What does this tell about the
curriculum? I owe so much to WLS and I
personally thank every one of the WLS staff. You
truly are a blessing from God.

Good times, bad times, best of memories, worst
of memories. Woodburn Lutheran was the place. I
have so many memories there with friends,
teachers, sporting events, and worship. I
remember Mr. Staub’s Christmas song, always
getting Mrs. Schroeder off topic, and giving Mr.
Hoyer a hard time. I also learned a lot.
Everything my teachers taught me they related
back to Christ. WLS not only gave me a good
education, but they showed me how Christ will be
with me throughout my life in everything I do.
“Thank you” to
the staff of WLS.
Miranda Haifley - Class of 2006 -
Woodburn Lutheran School, whenever I hear those
words I think back to all the times I had there,
from having religion class every morning and
praying before we ate lunch, looking back now
and it almost seems odd. God was such an
important part of our curriculum every day at
WLS, now the only time during the school day we
even hear God’s name is in the pledge of
allegiance or if someone misuses it. I had a lot
of good times at WLS, from playing sports to
doing origami with Mr. Staub in art class, and
being in the musicals. There were also some not
so good memories, like running the perimeter
every day before track practice, and having a
principal that’s kind of annoying (just kidding
Mr. Hoyer). Going to WLS really had an impact on
my life from learning about God, to having
teachers that you respected, for me WLS was an
awesome experience. Thanks to all of you, you
guys are amazing!

Stites - Class of 2007
– I have
truly been blessed by getting the opportunity to
go to WLS. I got to hear the Word of God every
day. The entire staff truly cared about each
student and did all they could to help the
students in their education and their faith. I
cannot thank the teachers and staff enough for
being there everyday for me and my classmates.
I made some of my closest friends at WLS as
well. You get to spend each day with a small
class size and grow close to those people. At
WLS I got to not just learn but discuss the
Christian faith with people who knew about it
and were willing to listen to me. I would be
struggling with schoolwork at Woodlan if not for
WLS. The curriculum is much harder at WLS and
it helped me a lot. From our WLS class 5
students are in the top 11 in GPA at Woodlan.
WLS has greatly helped me grow in my faith and
character so that I now can face any situation
with courage knowing that God is always with me.
